State CCC Swimming

O’Connor Catholic College had five athletes representing the College at the Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) Swimming Championships held at Homebush, Sydney on Monday. All students train with Harwood Swimming in Armidale. The day started with College Captain Lara Moloney swimming strongly, placing third in the 17+ Girls 100m Backstroke.

Isabella McKay swam well achieving a number of personal best times in the Girls 13 Years age group and Ben Kaberry represented the College in the 13 Years Boy’s 50m Freestyle at his first State CCC Championships.

No doubt feeding off the inspiration of her older role model’s bronze medal, Aleesha Stuart swam a great race to win one of her own, placing third in the 12 Years Girls 100m Freestyle. Later in the day she would back this up with a gold medal win in the 50m Backstroke event. Aleesha also gained fourth place in the 50m Freestyle.  Aleesha was also awarded 12 Years Age Championship of the State meet.

Lily Lorimer also showed that she could excel in the Backstroke event placing second in the 13yrs age category of the 50m event as well as fourth place in the 50m Freestyle.

To round out the day, Lara Moloney achieved another podium finish with a bronze medal in the 17+ Girls 50m Backstroke.

All medal holders will now have the opportunity to compete at NSW State All Schools on May 28 in Sydney.

PODIUM FINISHES: Aleesha, Lara and Lily had the opportunity to stand on the Dais winning medals in some of their events.

2021 Cross Country at OCC

To finish the Term today, we had our annual school cross country races. There were two different courses for the different age groups. Well done to all those who participated. Thank you Mr Honeysett for organising it. Results will be available next issue.

Basketball

All of our teams have enjoyed a great Term's basketball and we look forward to competition resuming next Term.

Bill Turner Cup

The Bill Turner Cup round 1 was played on Tuesday against ASC. In a tense, seesawing first half we went to the break 0-0. The second half was a different story with our players clicking and playing together as a team. When the full time hooter roared, O’Connor 4 defeated ASC 1.

Congratulations everyone on making the 2nd Round. Goal scorers were Rafe 2, with Fraser and Jacob 1 each. Rafe, Jacob and Joe (goalie) played strongly.

In the senior ‘Friendly’ our team went down fighting 0-5 to a very experienced side. All players rose to the occasion and displayed great O’Connor spirit.

Girl's 7's Rugby League Gala Day

On Wednesday our U14 & U16 Girls travelled to Bingara to compete in the North West Girls 7’s Gala Day. This day is a warm up for the North West Katrina Fanning Cup Days (9 aside), to be held for U14, U16 & Opens in Term 2. The 14’s played 5 games and the 16’s 4 games. Some girls also backed up and helped out other sides throughout the day. Both sides had a couple of narrow losses and a few draws which was a fantastic result. Many thanks to Phoebe Biddle and Mr James Healy who helped coach and manage the girls.
