Around the KLA's - students and their learning

CAPA

Year 9 Music in the Quad

This term we have been fortunate to be entertained on select days in the quad by some of our performing arts students. Year 9 treated us to some of their current musical performances they have been working on.

Year 8 Blues

On Friday Year 8 music classes performed their rendition of 'Hound Dog' to some of their teachers. Keep up the good work Year 8!

Mathematics

Mr Mark Harris

As we come to the end of term 1 2021 I would like to acknowledge the great work from all of the dedicated Mathematics staff at O’Connor.

All of our classes have been very settled, and this makes for an excellent learning environment.  It is a good time to remind all students that to start Term 2 they will need to have the right equipment, a book to write in,  pens, pencil, ruler, a charged device and a scientific calculator for EVERY lesson. We have noticed some students are not bringing their calculators, which are essential to support their learning, so please help them find them if they have been misplaced. Also, the College front office sells scientific calculators for $25.

What a wonderful start to the year! If, at any stage, you have questions or concerns about what is happening in your child’s Mathematics class, please contact their teacher, or Myself, Mr Mark Harris (Leader of Learning). Thorough and constant communication is encouraged to foster success.

PDHPE

Year 12 Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation

Our current year 12 Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation class are studying about Resistance Training. Throughout the unit, students discuss the concept of Resistance Training. They discover the uses of this type of training, particularly in relation to developing power, strength, muscular gain, body shaping, muscular endurance and competitive weight lifting.

To link with their studies, our students had the opportunity to attend a session at our local CrossFit Armidale Box. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning workout that is made up of functional movement performed at a high intensity level and our year 12s had the opportunity to be put through their paces by Crossfit coach Jim Ridley last week.
