Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We come to the end of a very full term. We have seen learning excellence across the school. Students and teachers working collaboratively to achieve learning success. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all staff for their mammoth efforts this term. I would also like to thank and congratulate our students for working towards achieving learning growth. By accepting challenges and working hard, every student can achieve success.

It is important at this time to reflect on our learnings from Term 1. Students should reflect on their work as well, to make connections between what they are learning and where they are heading; to celebrate their achievements and to plan for the next term. The following questions are good tool for reflection

  • Where am I going?
  • Where am I now?
  • What do I do next to move my learning forward?

This is a great set of reflection questions for everyone to use and worth a discussion at home in regards to this.

As well as in the classroom, our staff and students have given much in the areas of cultural, social justice, creative and performing arts and sport. Our fundraising for Project Compassion helps people in need and I congratulate our Vinnies students and LaSallian Youth Ministers for committing themselves to this cause. Our Z-Club continues to work with advancing the cause of the marginalised especially women in developing countries. My thanks to Mrs Channon and Mrs Lemon who work with our Z Club to achieve its aims. This term was the main Show Season and our students have done very well at the shows at Glen Innes, Guyra, Walcha and Armidale. Congratulations and thankyou to Mrs Janet Price for her continued strong work with, and dedication to, our Agriculture program. In Creative and Performing Arts we are gearing up for Eisteddfod next term, thanks to Miss Roache, Miss Sampson, Miss Suann, Nick and Mrs Roff for working with students on their performances. In the sporting arena, we have held very successful Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals, as well as participated in a wide range of sports including hockey, rowing,  football, rugby, cricket, touch and many more. My thanks to Mr Honeysett, Sports Coordinator and the many staff who have coached and taken teams away. On top of that there have been many other excursions including Camps and activities such as debating, chess and da Vinci Decathlon competition.

This is just a snapshot of Term 1, it is no wonder our students and staff are ready for a holiday! A big thank-you to all students, staff and parents for your support of these and many more College extracurricular activities.

Just a reprint of staffing changes from last newsletter -

In Term 2, we welcome back Mr Andrew May to O’Connor. Mr May has been on military leave for 6 months based in Darwin. We look forward to having him back at O’Connor. I would like to thank Miss Dea Trigwell-Lindley for her work in HSIE this term.

Mr Joseph Bell will reduce his teaching load at O’Connor to 0.2. He will continue to teach Year 12 English Extension 1 and 2. Miss Dea Trigwell-Lindley will pick up the remainder of Mr Bell’s load.

Wishing you all a very happy, safe and holy Easter

What new learning will you undertake this week?
