Last week BMGS attended the ISA Cross Country Carnival. Thank you to all those students who made the effort to attend, which was a very successful day for many of our students. Please ensure that if you are selected to represent the school that you make his event a priority.

Saturday sport saw only the girls' Football and Hockey at home. It was good to be able to watch the majority of these games. Congratulations to all the girls on their good sportsmanship, as well as for their efforts on the field.

Congratulations - Cross Country

The following students have been selected to represent ISA at the NSWCIS Cross Country to be held at the Equestrian Centre on 8th June. Mountain Biking

The Illawarra Schools Mountain Biking Championships will be held on Friday, 18th August. Please come and see me in my office if you are interested in attending.

The ACT Schools Mountain Biking Championships will be held on 22nd September if any students are interested in attending.

Skiing/Snowboarding

Any students who are interested in competing in the Redlands Cup Ski and Snowboarding Championships that will be held on 9th July, please come and see me or email me for entry information.

Athletics Carnival

The BMGS Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday, 9th June at Pitt Park. All students are expected to attend this Carnival. Please ensure you have your House polo and BMGS shorts to compete.

Rotary will be running a BBQ on the day so please support them.

ISA Cross Country Carnival

Dogs On Site

This is a reminder that dogs are not permitted onsite unless they are service dogs. We have had a number of parents and students ignoring this rule of late. There are a number of signs as you come into the school to remind you of this. Thank you for your cooperation.

Boys' Football

BMGS U14s defeated St Paul's Grammar School (SPGS), 5-0

SPGS hosted and provided an amazing pitch to aid both teams in playing the beautiful game. BMGS started the game with a close to full squad all enthusiastic and keen to play. This meant I was able to rotate players constantly throughout the match to ensure fatigue did not play a deciding factor. I do wonder if the boys expelled the same amount of energy trying to talk me into getting them back on the field as soon as possible or by continually nutmegging me! The match was a midfield battle with both sides fighting it out to gain control and dominate possession. BMGS were able to take their opportunities and Henry was clinical in front of goal, scoring twice so we went into half time 2-nil up.

After a quick drink and team chat, BMGS went into the second half pumped to close the game out. An own goal from a corner and a sublime run and finish from Josh made the score comfortable at 4-nil. Alton's magical left foot sealed the win late in the game with BMGS walking away 5-nil winners. Well done to both teams for playing a competitive but well spirited game.

BMGS U15s defeated St Paul's Grammar School, 2-1

This week’s fixture against SPGS had been built up over the course of the week. Personal stakes meant that a win against SPGS was critical, so the boys entered the field with the usual measure of joviality and jokes, but with the serious intention to suss out the competition. Within the first half, we had already determined that we could actually win this one. We started out with our usual team, supplemented by a number of 14s players. We started with a 4-4-2 formation but, after realising that we had the game confidently covered in defence, we pushed to a 4-3-3 and later a 3-3-3. All of this was made possible by both player versatility and the commitment shown by our stalwart defenders. Lachlan Roberts pre-empted a number of threatening through balls, chasing opposition attackers and clearing the ball. Raph and Charlie held the defensive line high, connecting passes well with the midfield. James Klein shut down multiple attacks down the wing with aggressive jockeying. Dylan and Finn navigated their CM positions with improved spatial awareness, and it paid off. They were able to deliver the ball to wingers, Otto and Toby, as well as Fabian up the top, with some decisive through-balls making a test of the SPGS defensive line. Our first scoring opportunity came in the first half, when Jed paced down the left side of the field with the ball, sprinting and playing around opposition players with ease. He delivered it all the way to the goal, where a quick hit to the side of the keeper led to our first goal, as Josh followed in and cracked the goal to the back of the net. Our half time chat centred around what we were doing well – positioning ourselves effectively, staying calm on the ball and taking control of our game, rather than the reactive style of play we have felt the need to play in previous weeks.

The boys took the field for the second half and, although SPGS attacked with renewed vigour, Luke managed to make some phenomenal saves. At the other end, whilst Dylan managed to deliver a number of corner balls beautifully into the box, we struggled to convert the opportunities. Our second goal came as a beautifully delivered ball to Dylan was redirected, with power, to the top right of the goal, out of reach of the keeper.

A third goal looked to be on, when Finn received a phenomenal ball and hit it around the keeper, but we unfortunately received the whistle blow for ‘offside’. Unfortunately, a rogue goal from SPGS’ lead attacker managed to get past our defenders and into the net. This was not one Luke could have saved, so was unlucky. Still, the boys managed to keep SPGS out for the remainder of the half. Men of the Match: Dylan Robilliard and Lachlan Roberts.

This was a phenomenal game to watch, capped by a tremendous victory!

BMGS Second XI defeated St Paul's Grammar School, 3-0

With two wins in a row, the Second XI were keen to keep their winning streak alive. BMGS came out firing straight from the whistle and quickly took control of the game. Cooper Mackie, having found his strength as a center back, was once again commanding and controlling our backline play with ease alongside Ben Delaney, Nathan Hilder and Jonathan Chongbang. Jem Sullivan, in central midfield as per usual, held strong and

was dominating the middle of the park. BMGS had some early chances coming through the brilliance of Thomas O’Connor and Jules Beale linking the attack for Charlie Mannes up top. SPGS were displaying some strong rebuttals in their attacking efforts but their chances of an opening goal were shut down by Callum Knussen making some confident saves in between the sticks. Finn Brinkman’s support in midfield allowed us to keep possession and his link up play with Jem constantly kept SPGS running ragged. Thomas was having a field day on the left side of the pitch, driving the attack into the box with great skill, creating more chances that we unfortunately fell short on. The first half finished goalless, BMGS 0 - SPGS 0, even with our dominant performance a goal was still yet to come.

A quick and short halftime talk was had and Charlie and Jem instructed the team to not change a thing and to keep playing our game and the goals would come. From the commencement of the second half, BMGS came out strong once again and SPGS were put on the backfoot. Thomas and Jules were strong out wide and opened up the SPGS defence. Jem and Finn worked together to hold control in the middle of the park. After a quick loss of possession, SPGS were on the counter but their chance was quickly shut down by our defence. Charlie made a darting run through the middle and Finn Brinkman confidently delivered the ball with one of the best passes Coach Cameron has ever seen. Charlie played it around the keeper and hit the back of the From the restart, BMGS won back possession through Thomas who switched the play to Jules. Charlie got himself back into the box and smashed home a second goal. SPGS kicked off and came out fast trying to get back into the game, SPGS’s striker cut in and saw a chance and took the opportunity to shoot, but Callum Knussen read it early and pulled off an extremely impressive top corner save, arguably one of his best so far this season. There was little time left and Charlie was eager to get his hat trick and came so close hitting the crossbar twice in the one attempt. Jules Beal’s great performance all game was topped off by a brilliant solo run that he finished well, scoring his first goal of the match. Well done, boys! BMGS First XI defeated St Pauls Grammar School, 4-0

The boys First XI took on SPGS down in Cranebrook for round 5 of the season. Last week’s 1-all draw with Spyridon had definitely shown that the comp was anyone’s to win and BMGS were looking to get back to their winning ways. From the kick off the intensity was high and BMGS started strong. Both teams had some unsuccessful chances early on and SPGS was displaying an equal amount of energy in their attacks. Isaac Nicholls and Connor Secker once again were playing out of position in our newly formed back 5, alongside Will Zakis, Jaxon Fraser and Trin Camilleri. For the first fifteen minutes, BMGS dominated the game with the back 5 shutting down the SPGS high press. Jett Fendall and Will Groenewegen were controlling the middle and linking up well with Jaiden Kennedy and Flynn Nicholls, with Max Anicic up top in striker. As the 20 minute mark came around, the game saw a massive shift in intensity as SPGS started to break through our defensive efforts and narrowly missed the finishing touch, forcing some routine saves from Jack Roberson in between the sticks. The first half finished BMGS 0 - SPGS 0 as the boys held on to keep SPGS at bay till the whistle came.

The half time talk was a much-needed re-evaluation of how we were playing and the boys were well aware that they had almost let the game slip away. From the start of the second half, BMGS came out strong again but this time resorted back to playing their usual smart football style of play. Switching back to our regular formation provided a more attacking

style to counter SPGS high press and with Connor moving into midfield saw us take control of the game. Richard Cunningham provided instant impact in defence upon his return from injury and Oliver Drew displayed an unstoppable work rate paired with his excellent pace in attack. Jack's distribution and communication from goal was pivotal in keeping the ball in our possession. Our chances on goal had returned and a harsh challenge in the box saw BMGS awarded a penalty that skipper, Jett Fendall, smashed home to open the scoring BMGS 1 - SPGS 0. Jett’s goal had lifted the team as BMGS came out firing. Will G was putting in a shift and was working extremely hard to double our lead. Some quick passing between himself, Jaiden and Oliver brought an excellent ball into the box that Max Anicic met and slotted home fot our second goal. BMGS were back dominating the game, and with the brilliant left foot corner of Jaiden Kennedy, Max Anicic got up well for the header into the back of the net to make it BMGS 3 - SPGS 0. With only ten minutes remaining Isaac Nicholls displayed an excellent defensive effort to get BMGS back in possession and on the counter attack, linking a pass through the midfield to his brother, Flynn, who played an excellent through ball for Max to take it brilliantly and bang home his third goal to make it BMGS 4 - SPGS 0. The shaky first half was forgotten after a beautiful second half performance by the boys, back to our winning ways to continue our undefeated run. Well done, lads; another well-deserved team win! Netball

BMGS Intermediate Gold were defeated by Barker College.

In our first away game of the season, our Intermediate Golds battled it out against Barker 10 in a challenging game. Liv and Kiah dominated the mid-court, showcasing their impressive skills and lightning-fast foot work. Despite feeling a bit under the weather, Bridey put up a fierce fight. Iluka and Liz worked their magic in the goal circle, while Gretel and Ruby unleashed their exciting new defensive move, ‘Operation Elevation’. Giselle, as our formidable Wing Defence, not only dominated the court with her intercepts, but also managed to form an unexpected friendship with the opposition, unintentionally becoming a delightful distraction during their Centre passes. Although victory may have eluded the girls this time, they will have their chance for redemption at a home game with Barker 10 in July.

BMGS Intermediate Blue were defeated by Barker College

In a challenging match against Barker 10, the girls showcased remarkable resilience, even with a few players absent. Whole the score did not favour us, the girls ensured that their time on the court was enjoyable. Yvette, Meenatchi and Liv delivered an exhausting performance in the midcourt. Aroha and Iluka secured some impressive goals, while Ruby and Kiah worked tirelessly together in defence. In the final quarter, when victory seemed unlikely, Kiah debuted as Goal Shooter and managed to get some points on the board. Meanwhile, Iluka showed her versatility by playing Goal Defence and secured numerous intercepts for the team. Notably, Iluka's new team warm-up game likely contributed to our intercepts and prepared the girls for an enjoyable match. Giselle even managed a guest appearance in midcourt during the final quarter, injecting some fresh energy into the game. A special thanks to Zarah, whose versatility in filling in both for attack and defence positions was invaluable to the team. Though the final result may not have reflected the team’s hard work and dedication, they left the court with heads held high. We will meet Barker 10 again in July and hope to secure a victory!

BMGS Junior Blue were defeated by Barker College

The girls played well this week and showed really good sportsmanship when they were down on the scores. In particular Ruby showed amazing leadership, pumping the girls up and encouraging them to do their best!
