During January 2023, Marisa Reid and her daughter Allegra travelled to Joigny to discover and explore the birthplace of our foundress, Madeleine Sophie Barat.

Here is an extract of their fascinating report:

The Sophie Barat Centre is in the heart of the old town and comprises Madeleine Sophie’s childhood home and a neighbouring property. The Barat house was built in the 16th century, after a terrible fire ravaged the town of Joigny. In the second half of the 18th century, it was occupied by Jacques Barat, who made wine-barrels by trade, and his wife Madeleine, born Fouffé. Sophie, their youngest child and the future foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart, was born there.

The 94th annual Women’s Interschools Golf Challenge Cup was held on Monday 20 March 2023 at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Oakleigh.

This year Sacré Cœur was ably represented by Genevieve Rawling (Brew 1974), Marg Anderson (Hoy 1973), Chris Warton (1980) and Rosemary Kelly (1976).

We played 18 holes Stableford competition. The winner was Genazzano with an impressive aggregate score of 137. Second was Toorak College and tied for third were Korowa and St Leonard's.

Sacré Cœur finished in 11th place out of 29 schools, so we didn’t fare too badly.

It was a beautiful course, weather was cool and a bit windy, and we had a very wonderful time.
