Reflection

Around this time we remember Blessed Frederic Ozanam, born in France in 1813. A husband and a father, Frederic Ozanam led a life of true mercy and charity. He was the principal founder of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Today there are thousands of Saint Vincent de Paul societies in 131 countries continuing his active work of Christian charity. Frederic Ozanam died at the age of forty. He was declared 'Blessed' by Pope John Paul II in 1997.

Speaking of St Vincent, a number of people associated with St Vincent's Hospital remember Karl Kulper who was a homeless man. For twenty-five years he lived in a bus shelter outside St Vincent's Hospital. He showed kindness to everyone and especially made sure the nurses got safely on their buses at night. On the wall of the bus stop now are the words: "A resident of St Vincent's bus stop for 25 years. Karl, in your bus stop in heaven may you rest in peace."

Prayer

God of grace and wisdom,

you continually raise up good people

who show their lives

that they follow a holy and loving God.

Let our lives be true to all that our faith teachers,

so that we will grow more and more

in your son's likeness.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Catherine McAuley- She always remembered that if there were ten thousand rules to be observed, the greatest of these is charity.

Catherine’s spirituality was centred on the mercy of God…prayer in action…action in prayer.
