Giving at Friends'

Right now the School is focused on transforming our built environment to provide the spaces our students need so they can continue to discover what is best within them and make a positive contribution to the School and the world around them. As part of the redevelopment of the Commercial Road campus, a new Sports Centre is being built on Carr Street, adjacent to Friends Health & Fitness. The new Centre will be an enduring commitment to sport and wellbeing in a revitalised ‘sports precinct’.

This year we are asking our community to contribute the funds we need to complete the installation of the professional, sprung timber court that will form the centrepiece of the new facility. This professional flooring system, finished in Tasmanian Oak, will provide a durable, high-performance playing surface that all our students will be proud to play on. Philanthropy is incredibly important to The Friends’ School as it enables the School to build facilities that we otherwise couldn’t afford. We are able to allocate funds to areas that will best serve our students now and into the future. The benefits of school sport extend far beyond winning or losing. Participation in sport results in enduring friendships, teamwork development and important life lessons. Please help us with this vital investment in sport and wellbeing at Friends’ for students today and into the future. The size of your gift is not important - it’s participation that matters. Please join us.

“My development through school, socially, professionally, really did benefit from sport. Collaboration and teamwork, and being uncomfortable and taking responsibility, thinking about your role and how you contribute. There is more to it than just winning or losing, there’s a whole range of skills that flow. There is something really powerful about sport. This new Sports Centre is a real investment in students and their long-term wellbeing.”- David Jackson (Class of 1998), CEO, Australian Life Technologies (image right)

“The reason I am where I am today is because of Friends’. But it’s not necessarily what I wrote down or the academic learning. I feel like Friends’ really helped me realise my emotional intelligence potential which might not have equated to a super high score, but it has absolutely helped me with my career path. Sport and wellbeing were central to my development and this new Sports Centre continues that commitment to the next generation of students.”- Sam Wood (Class of 1998), Founder, 28 by Sam Wood (image left)
