Read Like a Girl

Attention, Dads!

We invite you to take a part in your daughter’s reading journey by coming along to our Read Like a Girl with your Dad event, to be held in the iCentre on Tuesday 20 July.  It’s guaranteed to be a huge success, so see the details below, purchase your ticket, and start reading!

This will be our third Dad event, and these have proved to be very popular.  If you are interested in this event, we suggest purchasing a ticket quickly as they are selling fast.

(Please note, our definition of a dad is very broad and includes dads, step-dads, grandads, uncles, brothers, or other significant persons (of any gender) who support the education of our students and want to be involved.)

How to take part:

  1. Purchase a ticket on the College Events Calendar on the Mount Alvernia College website.  The $20 ticket price includes one copy of the book A Song Only I Can Hear by Barry Jonsberg and attendance for dad/s and daughter/s at the author and pizza evening.  Be quick, as places are limited and tickets sell quickly.
  2. Send your daughter a copy or screenshot of the receipt and she can bring it to the iCentre to collect your copy of the book
  3. Read the book … both/all of you
  4. Mark your diary – Tuesday 20 July, 6.00–7.30pm
  5. Bring your daughter/s to the Mount Alvernia iCentre for a pizza and author night where you will have the opportunity to listen to Barry Jonsberg, the author of A Song Only I Can Hear.

If you would like more than one copy of the novel, we can arrange this for you.  The price to purchase an additional copy of the novel is $16.99.  Please contact Mrs Rebecca Bonavia to arrange this (bonab@staff.mta.qld.edu.au or 3632 8575).

A Song Only I Can Hear

Introducing Rob Fitzgerald: thirteen years old and determined to impress the new girl at school, but it's a difficult task for a super-shy kid who is prone to panic attacks that include vomit, and genuine terror that can last all day.  An anonymous texter is sending Rob challenges and they might just help.  Or not.

Beautifully moving and full of heart and humour, A Song Only I Can Hear is a delightful novel about dreaming big, being brave, and marching to the beat of your own drum.
