Reconciliation Week

Today is Mabo Day.  It celebrates the landmark High Court decision that debunked the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ - the belief that Australia was uninhabited at the time of British colonisation.  It also marks the conclusion of National Reconciliation Week.  Last week during Assembly, students were invited to commit to an action for national Reconciliation and to record this action on a paper hand.  Students added their hands to our Reconciliation Week Walk that depicts the timeline of reconciliation in our country. The responses were considered, and demonstrate the readiness of our students to play their part in building relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, and cultures.

Fundraising for the Franciscans International and the Indigenous Literacy Foundation

This term we will continue to raffle four passes to Broncos home games.  Break 1 tomorrow, Friday 4 June, will be the last opportunity for students to purchase tickets in the draw for the upcoming Broncos v Rabbitohs game.  Tickets can also be purchased online.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 tickets for $5.  The winners of the current draw will be announced tomorrow at 2.00pm. Sharks and Tigers tickets will be raffled over the next several weeks.

Thank You

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the West End Community House Pantry and the Saint Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.  The Carceri was overflowing!  Last Thursday, Cara Fraser, Outreach Captain, and the Outreach leaders in Francis and Clare Schools travelled into the West End Community House to deliver our donations of non-perishable food items.  Our donations to Saint Vincent de Paul will be collected before the end of term.  You can still support the Vinnies Winter Appeal by making a donation online.

Athletics Carnival

With the Interhouse Athletics Carnival on Monday 14 June, I remind families of the importance of student participation in, and attendance at, this compulsory college community event.  It is an expectation that all students will be in attendance on the day to cheer on their House and each other.  All students are expected to compete if they are fit and able to do so.  Students unable to compete on the day can volunteer to assist with a number of tasks that will help the day run smoothly.  All students are to wear their sports uniforms to and from school; however, they are also invited to show some House spirit by wearing accessories in their House colour.  Students may wear to school, on the day, shirts (preferably with a collar) and ribbons in their House colour.

Reflection Days

In the last week of term, our Years 11 and 12 students will participate in their respective reflection days:

Year 12 Reflection Day, Tuesday 15 June

Year 11 Reflection Days, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 June

Information about these days will be forwarded to all Years 11 and 12 students and families in the next day or so.  Each of these programs will be facilitated by Character Builders and will give students an opportunity to reflect on their relationships, their strengths, and areas for development - both personally and as a cohort.  Reflection Days are compulsory for all students.  It is an expectation that all students will be in attendance.

House Masses

A big thank you also to students and families of Belle Prairie, Perugia, and Spoleto Houses who have attended the first three House Masses for this year.  House Masses will continue next term for Greccio, Villa Spada and Rieti. Everyone is most welcome.  The House Masses commence at 6.00pm at Little Flower Church, Turner Road, Kedron.  Invitations will be sent to all Greccio, Villa Spada, and Rieti families soon.

Greccio: Tuesday 20 July

Villa Spada: Tuesday 27 July

Rieti: Tuesday 17 August

Encounter Program

This term, the Encounter team will host their afternoon kick-ons at the College every Thursday in Laverna 001 from 3.00 to 4.30pm.  These afternoons provide opportunities for students from Mount Alvernia and Padua Colleges to connect with the Encounter team and each other in a safe and welcoming space.  Students can register for this activity via the Encounter Kedron Instagram page.   Students are also required to submit a parent permission form that has been emailed to all students.
