Head of Students News
Mr Peter Serone
Uniform
Many thanks to families who have kept a watchful eye over how their sons are presented, encouraging them to be the best version of themselves in everything they do at Marist College Ashgrove, including how they wear their uniform.
Mr McPhee mentioned to the students at assembly last week that he has received a number of emails, some from our surrounding residents, complimenting our boys on the way the uniform is being worn and how proudly they represent their College.
An area of uniform still requiring improvement includes hats and socks. In discussions with some boys, they appear to cling to their original hat from younger years with pride, much like our Australian cricketers with the baggy green cap! Hats need to be clean, not faded and with a solid rim, not floppy. Some boys seem to be wearing socks from earlier years and due to growth spurts, don’t even reach the appropriate height, up near the knees. Thank you in advance for working with your sons and supporting the College on these matters.
AIC Ecumenical Service
On Thursday last week, I accompanied the College Captains to Iona College for the 2021 AIC Ecumenical Service, along with Mr Luke Caplick and Mr Michael Newman. After the service, whilst the Head of College’s and Sports Coordinators met, the Captains of all eight AIC schools met with guest presenter, Olympian Stephen Bradbury – the Last Man Standing.
The summary of Stephen’s message was to surround yourself with positive and supportive people, to help foster self-belief in your leadership, and to do the extra small things which will help lead others by example.
It was a very entertaining conversation enjoyed by all.
