During Inquiry this term, students have been looking at Health and Wellbeing, specifically:

Students describing the connections they have to their community and how these can promote health and wellbeing.

Students select and demonstrate strategies that help them stay safe, healthy and active at home, at school and in the community.

In groups of 3-4, students created Lunch time clubs:

Step 1: Know Why Your Club Exists

-Why are we forming a club?

-What is our social club’s mission statement?

-What are our club’s long-term goals?

Step 2: Creating a calendar of events

Mark the days on the calendar that there will be meetings, on the back write in depth descriptions for 3 club meetings.

(Include: School Values- Inclusive, Respectful, diversity, clean space)

Step 3: Advertise my lunch time club

Create a flyer or online advertisement to get students to join your club

District Swimming Carnival

The District Swimming Carnival was held on Wednesday 1st March at Prahran Aquatic Centre. Well done to the 12 students that competed on the day. Adelita is off to the Divisional Swimming on Friday 10th March at Oakleigh Pool. We wish her all the best.

While the Year 5 /6 students have been working hard at school, they have also been following up the hard work at home with some amazing responses to the homework tasks.

TASK:

Pick one of your toys and pretend it has been uncovered by an archaeologist 100 years in the future.

Your toy is now the prize possession at the National Museum. Write out the exhibit card describing your toy. How will archaeologists of the future explain the historical background of your toy? Describe why historians think a person 100 years ago would have valued this object.

AUDREY:

Toy ‘woody’ doll

21st century, 2000-2100

This device was made in a factory. It has a soft body, western outfit made from fabric, and moulded plastic head, hat, boots, belt, and plastic hands. Children pulled string to make it say phrases like ‘howdy partner’ or ‘there's a snake in my boot’. They also moved it around like it was real to play.

It was actually a character from a movie called Toy Story.

TASK:You’re going on a trip to Antarctica. What eight items would you take with you and why? Remember to justify why you are packing these eight items.

JASPER:

Going to Antarctica

Lots of winter clothes (you would freeze to death without).
Ski mask, ski goggles (your face would be cold without).
Tents (need it for living there).
Sleeping bags (to sleep in)
My parents (they would pay for the flight, and I can't fly alone).
Toboggan (For sliding down snowy mountains).
Cameras (the wildlife there is amazing).
Myself (self-explained).

Task:

Ants are amazing - so small but super powerful! They are able to work together as a team to lift

several times their own weight. Write a story from an ant’s perspective as it goes on an adventure through your house. What might the television or the computer look like? Would an ant be afraid of the vacuum or a shoe? How would the ants work together as a team?

ELLA:

An Ant's perspective

I walked through a big hole to find myself in a massive cave filled with weird tall things everywhere. I continue this scary but exciting adventure. I go into a small hole in the wall and see a long flesh coloured tail. Then I see two yellow beads of light shining from above. A RAT! I ran too scared to look back. I run under a huge blob of furniture. I see a very big black screen standing on top of an enormous green shelf. Then as I turn my head forward and see a pair of familiar yellow eyes staring straight at me. I ran again, this time a bit out of breath. Then suddenly a smell like no other hit me. Something sweet. I stopped and the rat seemed to have vanished. I follow the sweet smell and find myself in a big room with high benches. The smell got stronger as I walked closer to the high bench. I crawl up the wall and onto the bench. There lay a wet blob of pinkish candy. I slid to it and started to eat. It was not how I thought it would be.

It was very chewy. In fact, all I could do was chew it. I couldn't swallow it. But when I started to look around, I found a packet that said: BRONTES BEST BUBBLE GUM. Then, SNAP. Small teeth grabbed me. Gulp, I was swallowed. The rat had found me.

#1 HAT because going to be hot.

#2 wallet because if you don't have a wallet you can’t pay for the food.

#3 summer clothes t-shirt, thongs, shorts.

#4 towel when you’re in the pool and out the pool.

#5sunscreen because it going to be hot, and you don't want to get sunburn

#6 bag to bring summer clothes and book and towel.

#7phone to take photo of amazing view and the food

#8WATER BOTTLE it going to be hot and you will be dehydrated
