Principal's Report
Student Attendance
Of all the factors important to a student’s learning, there is nothing more important than the student themself.
If a student is not attending school, their learning is compromised. The Department of Education uses a simple formula; if a student misses no more than 10 days of school a year, their attendance enhances their learning. If a student misses 11 to 20 days of school a year, their learning could be compromised and if a student misses more than 20 days of school, there is significant detriment to their learning.
Attendance at school has been impacted by so many things over the past three years, too many things to list. We will continue to understand that students will be absent for health reasons and family holidays, however we ask parents to ensure our students are only absent for these legitimate reasons.
The voice of DET is to remind you that when you make the decision for your child to be away beyond 20 days in a year, it is contributing to a concerning statistic. Regular absences of 20 days or greater for 5 years is equal to half a year of a child’s education. If this continues for the next 5 years, that is a full year of education that has been missed.
School Policies
The school has a number of policies and most of these are at the direction of DET. A number of policies are required to be shared with the school community. The way we share policies is via our website. Most of these policies are health and wellbeing related, however others such as privacy of information, concerns and complaints and photography/use of images are also available.
