Principal's Chat

Term 4, Week 6 - Friday 11th November, 2022

Good Afternoon Families of OLSC

This week has been a particularly busy one at OLSC.  We were able to hold a whole school assembly and each of us are still delighted to welcome parents back into the school after restrictions from COVID and the loss of the use of the Sports Centre for so long.

Today each centre paused to reflect and remember the sacrifices of those that enabled to

live with the freedoms that we have today.  All learning centres marked this occasion individually.  In Australia, Remembrance Day is always observed on 11 November, regardless of the day of the week, it is a time when people can pay their respects to the substantial number of soldiers who died in battle. The teachers have discussed this significance and the resilience of those that fought.

 OLSC Book Fair

The OLSC Book Fair is arriving on Monday 14th November and will hopefully be ready to visit on the Monday after school from 3:30 to 3:50. All students will visit the Book Fair with their teachers during the first few days so they can view what is available and create a personal wish list.

From Tuesday the 15th to Friday the 18th of November, families are welcome to visit the Book Fair before and after school to make purchases. Both cash and EFTPOS payments are welcome. The Book Fair will also be open ONLY to the students who bring money, on Wednesday the 16th, during break times. They should bring their money in a labelled envelope or zip-lock bag and this can be given to their teachers to look after during the day.

Families not Returning in 2023

We currently have a waiting list for placement at OLSC in all year levels.  If you are not planning to return to OLSC in 2023 please let the office know as soon as possible.

Some family friends of current enrolments have sought enrolment at OLSC and unfortunately all non-catholic families will be placed on a waiting list until we finalise numbers.

St Andrew's Parish Ball / Dinner Dance

The St Andrew's dinner dance is making a come back after following the end to COVID

restrictions.  The theme of the eveing is Spring Racing Carnival and includes a buffet dinner with the ticket price.  It will be held on Saturday the 26th November.  You can contact the parish office for more information and tickets.  I am sure if we get enough people to turn up we can encourage Father Albert, Father Jossy and Father Anton to do the limbo!

2023 Fee Increase

In coming weeks you will receive  notification from Jane regarding a fee increase for 2023. The family fee will increase by $50 to $1700.  We will keep the curriculum fee at $400 which has not increased in the last three years. This decision was not taken lightly and has been a directive by the archdiocese for our parish schools.   I encourage any families that are facing financial challenges to contact either Jane or myself to discuss your situation.

It's Now Time for Hats

Reminder - It is now a requirement that all students have a school hat each day in order to play outside.  School hats are available at the office should you require a new one.  Please ensure that your child wears a school hat throughout the duration of Term 4.

Have a great long weekend and enjoy the extra days of having no alarm! See you next week.
