Prime Minister's Spelling Bee 

Students from Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to compete in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee is an online-only, national competition with some very impressive prizes, including an all inclusive trip to Canberra to meet the Prime Minister!  

Students will compete in separate divisions for Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. Round 1 of the Spelling Bee will occur from August 15-26th. In this round, students will spell a selection of 30 words using an online platform. Students' results will then be analysed according to how many words were spelt correctly and the time it took for them to spell each word.

The top 100 ranked entrants from Round 1 in each state will be invited to participate in the State Finals Competition Round. The top 3 ranked entrants from the State Finals Round will compete in the National Final, which offers prizes for the top three ranked spellers in Australia. Good luck everyone! 

Students as Authors Winner - Mia Waters

A very big congratulations to Mia Waters, who was the winner of the CSO’s Students as Authors Writing Competition in the K-2 Category. Mia published a short story titled ‘Helping the Sea,’ about a young boy and girl who help to care for the environment and marine life. Yesterday, Mia met with Trish Donald, a local illustrator, who will help develop Mia’s story into an eBook for publication on SORA, the digital library platform. What an achievement! Well done, Mia.
