Tasmanian All Schools State Mountain Bike Championships

Fifteen Friends’ students participated in the recent Tasmanian All School Mountain Bike Championships at Glenorchy MTB Park (near Tolosa Reserve).  The length of the race trail increased with age group and the tracks that were chosen were relatively easy trails to ride.

This event is growing in popularity, with more students riding Mountain Bikes and thanks goes to all students for participating and Anthony Petty and staff who helped coordinate the day.  Some result highlights included Oliver Johnston 6th place in U15, Tom Petty 14th place in U15 and Max Russell-King 18th place in U17.

Year 7/8 Australian Rules Football

The School was delighted to recently field a Year 7/8 Boys Australian Rules Football team in the School Football competition.  This was the first time in many years the School has had a boys team as part of the SSATIS roster. The mix of Year 7 and Year 8 boys trained with fantastic enthusiasm and developed strong comradeship throughout the season.  Although the roster was short, the endeavour and team work were excellent at each match. Thanks to parent Matthew Cracknell for coaching the team and to other parents, students and staff who helped support, umpire and cheer on the team.

Sailing for Australia

Our very own Will Sargent (Year 12) will be representing Australia as part of a 4-person team attending this year’s Pacific Games to be held in Samoa between 7-20 July.
