Traffic concerns at pick-up time

Dear KDC Community, Our yard duty teachers have again raised serious concerns about the parking behaviour after school. This includes extensive double-parking, blocking legally parked cars, illegal u-turns at the front of the school, parking in the disabled lay-by area and parking across the driveways of neighbours in Wanaka St. The new roundabout at Swindon Crescent means that no one has to travel more than 100 metres to make a legal turn, so it is inexplicable that parents are doing u-turns in the middle of intense traffic and right next to our crossing. Be warned that I have requested Brimbank Council to carry out compliance blitzes so there will be a great chance of being fined if you continue to do the wrong thing. The chaotic 10 minute period at the end of our school day puts students at serious risk and I would ask everyone to take much more care than we are seeing at the moment. Consider strategies such as asking your child to walk a few hundred metres from the school for pick up, getting your child to wait for an extra 10 minutes until the rush is over, waiting in your car further away until your child texts and says they are ready to be picked up or sharing pick-ups with other parents to minimize the number of cars in the street. Can we please all work together to improve this situation as I am worried it is literally an accident waiting to happen.
