School Council

On Thursday 12 May, the Wyndham Vale School Council met for the second time this year, the first being onsite on Thursday 31 March which was a little strange after a year of Zoom meetings, it was almost like being called to the Principal's Office.

These two meetings provided an opportunity for the new parent and department representatives to be welcomed to the Council and the Office Bearers to be elected.  We welcome Uday, Leeha and Salvatore to the WVP School Council.  Your new Council is as follows:

Parent MembersDepartment MembersCommunity Member
Sharon Gatt (President)Sue Seneviratne (Executive Officer)David Sivaraj (Treasurer)
Katrina Volkerts (Vice President)John Pickett
Chris SutcliffeSalvatore Farfalla
Uday Nadella
Leeha Stant

During our last meeting Council passed a motion to endorse a Common Day for Monday June 6, this is in addition to those curriculum days already in the calendar for 2022.  Due to the unavailability of relief teaching staff across the State, the Department of Education has recommended that schools hold their professional practice day for Term 2 on the same day for all staff.  This Common Day will allow the teachers from each year level to work together to coordinate and plan the remainder of the terms classes.

Motions were also passed to support the Foundation Animal Land excursion - which is a great experience for the kids and the Year 5 Melbourne Museum excursion.

We reviewed and approved the Finance Reports for March and April, the Sustainability Action Plan and the Waste and Litter Audit.  We also discussed the new Compass Payment method for School Fees and Excursions, which looks to have had a great buy in from parents.

Other items discussed at the meeting included the Naplan testing, of which at the time of the meeting 1488 tests had been undertaken by the Grade 3 and 5 students, well done to everyone who participated.

You may have noticed some work at the back of the oval, Cricket Nets are currently being constructed to give the kids another option when it comes to lunch time activities.  And finally, fundraising, after 2 very quiet years the Parents and Friends Group are back with a bang.  They have done an amazing job with the Easter Raffle, Mothers Day Stall and the Election Sausage Sizzle.  They do always need support so if you are interested, leave your name at the office or take a look at the Facebook Group Wyndham Vale Primary School PFA.

Our next meeting is Thursday 16 June 2022.
