MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Twenty five McGuire College students enjoyed the MSO Schools Concert on October 16th at Eastbank. The theatre was full with an excited audience, and the orchestra demonstrated the various Instruments and played short excerpts from classical music repertoire.

It is great to have the opportunity to hear a world class performance group.

BETTER TOGETHER ALLIANCE CONCERT -   FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

The McGuire College Jazz Ensemble played two great renditions of jazz standards – “Mercy , Mercy Mercy” and “Along for the Ride” at the BTA Concert last Friday, to an appreciative audience of parents and friends. Brianna topped the night off by playing her first jazz improvised solo , along with Paige. Well done!

We also had five students join the Singers performing “This is Me”, and several students playing in  the joint Concert Band. Well done to Joshua, Jonathon, Kade, Jack, Paige, Maria, Brianna, Olivia, Angelina and Makayla. Mr Arnold came over from Echuca to support our ensemble – thanks Mr Arnold!

MUSICA VIVA CONCERT -   MONDAY, 29TH OCTOBER

On Monday we  hosted an excellent concert played by Adam Hall and the Velvet Players. Our student audience really enjoyed the music and also enjoyed participating in some vocal Scatting (singing) with the band, and also some of our players joined the band in “C Jam Blues”.

It was a great musical afternoon!

BANDS FESTIVAL – VICTORIAN SCHOOL MUSIC FESTIVAL – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16.

Our McGuire Concert Band of 24 players is off to Federation Square Theatre for our annual Statewide Bands Festival. This year we will also be joined by 12 Mooroopna Secondary College students in a combined band of about 36 players. We will have two combined rehearsals to

prepare for our performance. Students have taken home permission forms plus a letter to parents, and need to return their permission forms by Thursday, November 8th. Hopefully , there is a lot of music practice going on at home!
