Doctors In Schools

Following requests from schools participating in the Doctors in Secondary Schools program, we have developed the following resources to support you to inform your school community about the program.

  • 1 x video developed for students to inform them of the service
  • 1x video explaining the service to other members of the school community

These materials are available for use to inform students, parents, teachers and your wider school community about your school’s participation in the program, and how students can access the service. Given you best know your school’s community, we will leave any decisions about how your school chooses to use these resources to you.

You can view and download the videos here along with all our program materials and resources used to inform your school community about the program on edugate.

If you have any questions, please contact us by email at doctors.in.schools@edumail.vic.gov.au or by calling 03 7022 1738.

Managing Asthma/Hayfever during Spring

For many people with asthma, Spring can be a difficult time of year due to the increased amount of pollen in the air.  Pollen from flowers, grasses and trees is a common trigger for asthma and hay fever, particularly on windy days or during thunderstorms.

Hay fever (or allergic rhinitis) is a commonly reported problem during Spring and there is a strong link between hay fever and asthma.  It is estimated that 80% of people with asthma will also experience hay fever. Symptoms associated with hay fever, such as sneezing, runny or blocked nose and irritated eyes, occur when certain allergens are inhaled and this triggers any immune response in the lining of the nose.

Hay fever can have a significant impact on the student’s achieving and maintaining good asthma control and as such, it is important that we are prepared.
