This event is designed for youth aged 11-15 years who may experience social isolation, anxiety, or other stressors, and aims to improve the sense of wellbeing of the participants.
It is essentially a popup peer group and goes to great lengths to foster a diverse and inclusive environment.
We will have Drumbeat facilitation, Lego building, and other age appropriate activities, but this year's feature activity is the 'Level-Up! Gaming Event' which provides the latest in gaming equipment including a virtual reality experience. The gaming activities will be facilitated by an expert in gaming who has many years of previous experience as a youth worker. All other activities will be facilitated by youth workers also.
Operation Christmas Child (gifts in a shoebox for the needy)
You're invited to participate in giving gifts to children living in poverty, this being even more important now with the devastating COVID pandemic. Most of these children have never received a gift before so for them it really is a ‘Gift of Caring and Love in a Shoebox’.
This not only puts smiles on the faces of hundreds of thousands of children and their families every year, it also puts smiles on our children and their families as they experience the joy of giving as they choose gifts to pack in the shoebox.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian world-wide organisation providing emergency relief and development assistance to suffering people. Through the Shoe Box Gifts, Samaritan’s Purse connects with these communities and meets other vital needs including safe water, sanitation, education, and health.
Shoeboxes given by people in Australia and New Zealand last year were sent to Cambodia, PNG the Philippines, and Fiji. In 2020 locally we sent 1,836 boxes, Victoria 21,140, Australia & New Zealand 214,301, globally 9,113,853.
