What an amazing effort by the Intermediate Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams who tried hard all day in the games they participated in. Volleyball is certainly popular as Western Heights College as we were able to include two Boys and two Girls Intermediate teams in the competition. The teams were arranged in Year levels, so we had a Year 9 and Year 10 team in both the Boys and Girls competitions. The Western Heights College Year 10 Girls team was successful in making the Semi Finals but was unfortunately unable to defeat their opponents. It was most pleasing to see all team members displaying excellent sportsmanship.
Well done to all team members and we now look forward to the event next year.

A successful day was had by all students at the Landy Field Athletics Track on Tuesday 8th March where Western Heights College held their annual 2022 House Athletics Carnival. It was a rather coolish autumnal day with all elements felt: sunshine, wind, rain and cold but that did not dampen the competitive spirit of all the competitors. Students were very keen to get actively involved particularly in not only the field events but also the track events where there were record entries. Once again this year students were required to nominate and register for their events prior to the day’s competition with students encouraged to give as many events a try as they could.
The schools PE athletics program has enabled students from Year 7 through to Year 10 to practice their athletics skills prior to the competition day. A big thankyou goes out to all who participated and tried their best in the respective events. Also a huge thankyou goes to the marvellous effort from the staff who made a significant contribution to the day in the various official capacities, including John Robinson who supports the college in the organisation of the day. Well done everyone.
Congratulations once again goes to the Barton (BLUE) house who were the overall winners from the day.
Congratulations also again to the Age Group Champions who were successful in their age group and we look forward to these students and others representing the school at the next level of competition which will be held in week two in term two on Friday 6th May at Landy Field. Please keep an eye out on Compass or the Sports noticeboards in each community building for allocated team members.
Year 10Biology class completing an experiment on the Nervous system & reaction time. Students compared results of reaction time in a normal state and a distracted state.

Motivational Speaker next term
In Week 1 of next term (Thursday 28th April, sessions 5 & 6), students in Years 11 – 12 and Year 10 students undertaking a VCE subject, will be attending a motivational presentation by Nathan Hulls. Parents of these students are warmly invited to attend the presentation as well which will take place in the Vines Road Community Centre at no cost to our families.
Nathan Hulls is Australia’s #1 High School Motivational Speaker who has been engaging, inspiring and empowering students, teachers, youth workers and parents across Australia. Through his research into positive psychology, social + emotional intelligence, resilience and motivational theory Nathan runs seminars that engage and strengthen the whole school community. Nathan’s stories of overcoming adversity and disability at a young age, to follow his dreams and achieve success have inspired hundreds of thousands of others to do the same. His passion to help young people is evident in his presentations and he has an amazing ability to connect and engage with youth right where they are at, bridging the gap and giving them the tools and the strategies to help them uncover their true potential.
I think everyone would agree that considering the past couple of years, our senior students – more than ever – need our encouragement and support to bring out the best in them as they move through their final years of schooling.
We look forward to welcoming our senior students and parents to this exciting event.
