Religious Dimension

Refugee Sunday

Yesterday was Refugee Sunday. Pope John Paul II invited us to an ever deepening awareness of the mission of the Catholic Church: “to see Christ in every brother and sister in need, to proclaim and defend the dignity of every migrant, every displaced person and every refugee. In this way, assistance given will not be considered an alms from the goodness of our heart but an act of justice due to them”.

Australia has an extensive history of successfully resettling people as refugees and humanitarian entrants. Since federation, Australia has welcomed over 800 000

people in need of humanitarian protection and offered them a permanent home. Many people who came to Australia needing protection are now prominent in Australian business, government, education, arts, sport and community life.

We pray for families and friends separated by conflict and forced migration,

that they may soon be reunited.

We are one body, different parts,

One family, spread throughout the world.

We feel one hurt as war and injustice force loved ones apart.

Living Christ, work through us, as we open our hearts to all those in need

So that there may be one hope, one joy, one welcome in you. Amen

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Students participated in a prayer liturgy on Friday 11 June to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Each student received a paper heart to remind them that they are loved and that we all have a responsibility to love others. Students explored the concepts that we need to be Jesus' hands, voice and heart in our world today as we strive for justice for all. We are presently collecting food for our local St Vincent de Paul Conference to distribute to those in need. Please contribute some non-perishable foods to assist others. The baskets are in the office area and will be collected this coming Friday morning.
