Senior Cricket

On the 10th of Feb the senior boys cricket match was played between Echuca College and Rochester on the newly unflooded College oval. The mercury was already high when Rochy won the toss and elected to bat. Our openers Alex Kidd and Lachy Caldwell both started well with Lachy clean bowling one of Rochys openers in the second over. After a bit of a dry patch for the bowlers, 3 quick wickets fell, with Dylan Jenkins snagging one in each of his first and second over and Darcy Whyte contributing one in his opening over. This left Rochester reeling at 4/41. A 53 run stand was broken by a false shot earning Darcy his second wicket which he quickly followed up next ball giving him a shot at a hat-trick. Darcy’s hat-trick ball was played and missed by the batsman narrowly missing the off stump. Darcy's run of form continued when he got his 4th wicket nicking off another unfortunate batsman leaving Rochy 7/99. Another strong Rochy partnership saw them finishing the innings at 9/165 with Lachy picking up his second wicket and Dallas Price throwing down the stumps for a direct hit runout.

After a well deserved break from the sun it was our turn to have a hit with Dyl Jenkins and Angus Haswell opening the batting. Dyl copped a nice ball early losing his off stump which brought Fletcher Good to the crease. Fletch and Gus steadied getting the score to 35 before carnage ensued losing 3/1 with Gus, Fletch and Alex departing quickly. Despite the collapse James Graham opened his scoring with a bomb over mid-wicket for 6, he didn’t last long though departing for 8 leaving Echuca 5/44. Bringing to the crease the captain, Lachy tried his best, scoring a smart 44 with some massive hits and some good contributions from Dylan Roberts (24) and Dallas Price (11). Despite their efforts, the Rochy bowling was too strong, eventually coming out winners by 23 runs.
