Swimming Carnival 2019

On Thursday 28th February BAPS held our annual Swimming Carnival. It was a great day held in bright sunshine. Good day for a dip!

The following school records were broken on the day:

Isaak G (10y 50m Freestyle, Jnr 50m Backstroke, Jnr 50m Butterfly, Jnr 4 x 50m Medley). Brilliant swimming Isaak.

12/13y      Girls        Aliyah W.

12/13y      Boys       Zavier G.

The final House point score was:

PERKINS               177

FREEMAN             176

FRASER                 115

BRADMAN            95

A special mention goes out to Wendy and Bill, two of our BAPS grandparent community. They arrived early but instead of relaxing, assisted Mr Stephen in setting up tents, tables, chairs for age races, banners for the houses and various other small jobs, all whilst gaining the best grass spot! Their assistance on the day and kind words to our staff after the event was greatly appreciated.

Zone Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 6th March, 29 students represented our school at the TL PSSA Zone Swimming Carnival. These students were selected based on the results from our school swimming carnival. We wish all swimmers them the best of luck. Results will be published in the next newsletter.

I often get asked how our swimmers are selected for these events. The top 3 students from the 50m freestyle events and top 2 students from all other events gain selection. In some races 8, 9 and 10year olds combine into a junior age group. This falls in line with the NSW PSSA rules which filter down to Regional (Sydney North) and Zone (Tuggerah Lakes) levels. Please also be aware that if there was more than 1 heat per event, then times were combined to decide the fastest competitors. This means that a child may have won a race at our carnival, but a competitor in a different heat beat their time, which in turn meant they did not gain selection for our school team.

These rules and selection procedures are replicated in athletics. Our School Athletics Carnival will takes place on Friday 5th April.

Any concerns please see Mr Stephen

Sydney North Trials

Over the past 4 weeks we have had many students compete at Tuggerah Lakes and Central Coast Trials for a variety of sports. All these trials are a stepping stone to gaining selection for Sydney North Teams to compete at the State Championships.

AFL:                       Oscar M

Cricket:                Blake R and Luke S

Soccer:                Sienna K, Riley W, Liam S and

Basketball:         Kade W, Blake R, Jaxon M

From these above students, Liam S has gained selection in the Tuggerah Lakes soccer team to play in a combined Central Coast selection trial. Congratulations Liam.

There are also several more trials that are taking place this week including Rugby League and Tennis. Watch this space for future results to be posted.
