Infants

What a fantastic term the Infants students and staff have had, and it has flown by. Term three is looking to be even busier with multiple events being planned, which we are hoping parents and friends can join us at school for – watch this space early next term.

All parents and carers should have received half-yearly reports for their children this week. An opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss individual progress will be available at our parent/teacher interviews during Week 2 next term. Please make a booking to meet with your child's teacher – we hope to see all of our parents during the week.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students can't believe they are already halfway through their first year of school! They have been so busy working on their reading, writing and number skills and have all come so far. Our clever Kindy students are now able to use their sounds to help them spell words when they are writing. Families might like to ask the Kindy students to write them a sentence in the holidays! Everyone is enjoying reading to their Year 7 buddies during our Reading Strategy lessons. In maths, students have been finding out how much they can hold using beans and orbies and comparing with each other. They have all enjoyed this hands-on and sensory experience. Thanks to Jaimee for supplying us with thousands of orbies - they made the learning experience lots of fun!

We have also had some fun hands-on lessons learning about fractions. We halved and quartered apples, bananas, kiwi fruit and lollies. Best of all we got to eat our halves and fractions when we had finished.

Rest up during the holidays, enjoy some time out together and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday 13 July for Term 3.

I would like to say thank you to students, families and staff for their kind wishes as I take a break and help out on the family farm for a while. I will miss everyone and look forward to catching up soon.

Yindyamarra

We can not believe it is the end of term already! What a big, busy and wonderful term our Yindy students have had. Over the past fortnight, we have been revising and consolidating the mathematical concepts that we learnt this term. We have been re-exploring 2D shapes. By using hands-on, concrete materials we have created colourful designs, patterns and artworks using a range of shapes, tiles and objects. We even used our bodies to see which shapes we could build as a team. This was quite fun and there were lots of giggles when we were trying to manoeuvre our bodies into rectangles, triangles and squares.

We mastered how to collect data this week. We created tally boards for a range of themes such as 'how did you come to school?', 'your favourite bug?' and we further explored our growing understanding of shapes and learnt how to sort, classify, tally and count our results.

We have had a wonderful term collaborating and learning with each other. Have a fun and restful holiday and we look forward to seeing your bright smiling faces next term.

Primary

Well, we've come to the end of another term here at Boorowa Central School, and once again...it was busy! Sports carnivals, district and Western Cross Country, rugby league and league tag days, assemblies, environmental incursions, reading with secondary students, Year 6 transition days...it has been a jam-packed ten weeks.

We have finished writing all of the reports for our Primary students, and it was a pleasure to read every one of them. What I liked the most from our reports, was when I read that students are 'kind', 'respectful', 'helpful' and 'always try their best'. We know that all students can't be the best at everything, however, effort and respect are the highest indicators of achievement in my books. Well done to all of our students and we look forward to parent/teacher interviews early next term.

Assistant Principal Primary (Relieving)

4/5 Class

Year 4/5 have been working hard to finish off some units of work before the end of term. We have completed our unit on 'Changes of State' in science and we have finished our persuasive writing unit in English. Students have written about whether they'd prefer to live in the country or the city! We have started reading 'Paper Planes' and will use this as a basis for our literacy sessions next term. Students are looking forward to watching 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' this week after reading the novel in Terms One and Two in our read-aloud sessions.

In mathematics, we have been learning about money. We have looked at why it is important to learn about money and when we use this knowledge in everyday activities.

In art, we have finished our 'transparency art' and it is beautifully decorating our classroom. Mrs Corcoran is very impressed at how much effort has gone into these artworks and how amazing they look!

We are all excited about returning next term, there is so much to look forward to!

5/6 Class

In the 5/6 classroom, we have continued to explore narrative writing, including emotive language and dialogue. We continue to build our skills in area, perimeter and volume in mathematics - and we're getting pretty good at finding missing dimensions.

In science, we are experimenting with mould by manipulating variables such as light, heat and moisture. The results are pretty clean at the moment...but let's see what it's like after a week or so!
