DIRECTOR OF STUDENTS REPORT

Innovation
Innovation, noun, the introduction of new things, ideas or ways of doing something.
Innovation is one of the six values of The Riverina Anglican College. Innovation perfectly articulates and encompasses the actions and thinking of our College community in these trying times.
We would all agree that the last couple of weeks have been bizarre, to say the least. Thousands of people out of work, the country in lockdown and schools closed. Truly a time in history that will never be forgotten.
I am very proud of the way our community has rallied to the challenge of our age. Our teachers, students and parents have all worked together to transition to a digital learning environment that continues to embrace the Mission of the College: ‘As a Christ centred school, The Riverina Anglican College transforms lives through exceptional education, empowering each student to act with wisdom, compassion, justice and resilience.’
On Monday morning the College launched TRAC Online and the Wellbeing team reunited all students in their house and year levels. Words of encouragement with messages of care and advice on wellbeing were delivered as students could see the names and faces of their classmates. Excited and ready to embrace the new learning paradigm we had almost all of the student body tune into Mr Tyndall, much the same as having all our students in the Gym.
The next two weeks and the months that follow are going to be marked with trepidation. Everyone in our community is going to go through incredibly different and difficult challenges. We can acknowledge this as a time of adversity and we can also see it as a time of great opportunity. We have the opportunity to reflect on who we are and what we have, embrace innovation, collaborate, and learn in the true sense of the word.
With our students and wellbeing at the centre of our thinking, we have a great opportunity to provide our students the space to be innovators by listening to their ideas, asking the right questions and allowing autonomy. With a little guidance, they will tell us how they are going to balance their learning, connect socially, exercise, reflect, and support each other.
