Magis report

Our wonderful Year 7 WADL Interschool debating team won their third round of finals to move into the WA semi-final at Shenton College next Tuesday. The finals have seen three very close debates against Perth Modern School, Shenton College and All Saints College, and the team debate against MLC on Tuesday.  Congratulations to this exceptional team – Sasha Pallis, Charlie Pronk, Tom Beach, Catherine Gazia and Noa Mintz, and coach Kirralee Dawson.  British Parliamentary debating commences on 14 September, and teams are currently being finalised.

John XXIII College’s  three Creative Edge teams and one Tournament of Minds team compete on Saturday in the regional finals for both of these prestigious competitions, Creative Edge at Curtin University and Tournament of Minds at ECU.  Good luck to these talented teams and special thanks to Mr Stuart Massey who has been facilitating the TOM team, and Mr Damien Connellan who will be assisting me with Creative Edge Teams on Saturday.

The House Chess Championship round one has been played this week, and round two begins on Monday.  Good luck to all competitors.  Chess also counts  for the House Championships.

Several important  Magis awards will be presented at the upcoming RUOK Assembly, including the House Academic Trophy and winner for each year group, Famelab, Creative Writing first place getters, and Debating Certificates to our two WADL Zone champion teams from Years 7 and 8.  The full final set of awards including Magis Champion Scholars and 2021 awards in all areas  of the Magis Program will be presented at the Magis Awards Breakfast on Thursday September 23.
