Book Week

With all the challenges of lockdown we decided to make Book Week really special. The 6s and 7s celebrated by drawing pictures of their favourite characters in a book and some children  made videos telling me all about their favourite book or series showing me their extensive home libraries.

We then got dressed up as our favourite characters and read some of the winners and runners up for the Children's Book of the year Awards. The winner for the younger children was No Never by Libby Hawthorn.

The kindergarten children really enjoyed this book. It is a cautionary tale about the consequences of saying no. Funny for children and adults alike, I highly recommend it.

For the 10s and 11s we are still reading Bindi by Kirli Saunders, an aboriginal book about an 11 year olds life in an outback community. It is a poetic novel. We are also learning the meaning of many aboriginal words as we read. It's a great insight into the aboriginal culture of today. We are enjoying it very much.
