It is hard believe that it is week 8. The term, to this point has gone extremely quick and as you would be aware has been very busy. With this in mind students and staff are looking forward to a well deserved holiday break as our continuous focus on growth and improvement is challenging work.

As Principal of this wonderful school, I always enjoy stepping back and admiring the exceptional teaching and learning that occurs in every learning space. Our student's and staff have a relentless approach to improving and taking the next steps which leads to growth. This is what we are aiming for!!

Class Placement 2022

In the first few weeks of Term 4 the process to place students into classes for 2022 will begin.

Classes are formed according to:

The number of students at each year level
The Education Department’s recommended teacher to student ratio as per the funding model
Staff knowledge about students' educational needs
Information provided by parents that addresses the LNPS Class Placement Guidelines (please see attached)

If parents wish to provide further educational information to support this process, please use the LNPS Class Placement Guidelines. Information or requests that do not meet the criteria outlined in the guidelines will not be taken into consideration.

PAT Testing

The Australian Council for Education Research's (ACER) Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) are an Australian, nationally normed series of tests designed to provide objective, norm-referenced information to teachers about students' skills and understandings.

They are widely used in schools across Australia to monitor progress in key skill areas.

All South Australian students in years 3 to 10 are required to undertake the online PAT Reading comprehension (PAT-R) and Maths (PAT-M) tests annually.

At LNPS students in Years 2-7 will be undertaking the online assessment in Weeks 7 to 10 of this term.

At the centre of each PAT test is a described proficiency scale, providing both quantitative and qualitative data on student performance, making the PAT tests ideal for understanding students’ current strengths and weaknesses, informing teaching and learning, and monitoring progress over time.

Early Years Redevelopment

The project is moving along slowly and a start date is imminent. We have been in discussions with the company awarded the contract and have begun preliminary planning ready for the start.

The start date is still to be confirmed by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, but is very close. We are still on schedule to be completed, for the building to be used for the start of 2022.

We thank everyone for their patience, and we share your frustrations as we continue to navigate a process that is not within our control in regards to timelines and a delayed start date.

R U OK? Thursday September 9 is “R U OK” day

Life's ups and downs happen to all of us. So chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.

Are they really OK? Ask them today. Your conversation could change a life.

You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.

There are lots of free resources at: https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day along what to do after you have asked “R U OK?” This initiative is about strengthening our relationships and bridging the gap between caring about someone and letting them know that you’re there for them when they need it.

A simple way to connect and have a meaningful conversation with someone – whether it’s a friend, family member or workmate – is over a cuppa. The conversation doesn’t have to be the heavy stuff, sometimes just talking about work, sport or the kids is enough to ease the stress of life. But if they need to let off some steam you can use R U OK?'s 4 conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load.

Because in the time it takes to have a cuppa, you could start a conversation that could change a life.
