Year 12
Immersion Experience
This week our Year 12 students have come together off-site for our very first immersion event, providing careers, wellbeing, study skills and mentoring support for students embarking on their final year of study.
The two-day immersion experience is aimed to set expectations for the year ahead and to inspire students to achieve their best and explore all opportunities and supports available to them.
Held at the McIntosh Centre in Shepparton, a range of interactive presentations and activities were provided with a focus on team building, creative thinking and fun.
One of the highlights was certainly the newspaper fashion parade, which saw students putting their best foot forward on the catwalk, sporting handmade costumes crafted from recycled newspaper thanks to the Shepparton News. From wedding-inspired gowns and veils to intricately pleated sleeves and fancy hats there is no doubt our 2023 Year 12s are a talented bunch!
Although Year 12 is most definitely important for setting students up for the future, the theme of the immersion was also around enjoying the year and leaning on the support of fellow peers, friends, family and GSSC staff.
For this reason, during the evening of day one, we also welcomed parents and guardians to the College for a presentation regarding VCE and VCEVM and how families can work together with the school to support their children.
By all accounts the two days were thoroughly enjoyed by students and staff alike and immersion is looking to be a regular feature on the Year 12 school calendar.
Thank you to the local businesses, industry and organisations who made this event possible and a huge shout-out to Partnerships Manager Mary-ann Linehan for making this happen, as well as the Careers team and senior school staff who attended across the two days and helped out.
