Schoolwide Positive Behaviour System

 (SWPBS)

SWPBS is an evidenced-based system that schools use world-wide to support positive, safe and supportive learning environments. It sets out what we, as the Greater Shepparton Secondary College community, expect to see, hear and feel when at school and when representing our school.  The SWPBS College Values support our vision ‘To develop creative, curious and caring learners who actively contribute to making a better world.’ These values are:

Aspiration: aspire to excellence in all that you do

Integrity: we act in a way that is honest and trustworthy

Respect: we show care for ourselves and others and value difference

Responsibility: we are accountable for our decisions and actions

You will see elements of SWPBS across the college, and in a variety of formats, including;

  • SWPBS Matrix –  The matrix sets out the expected behaviours for all College settings, including the yard, the bus, the classroom, assembly and when moving around the school.
  • SWPBS Mini Lessons – students undertake learning in SWPBS every fortnight in Homegroups
  • SWPBS Behaviour Management Flowchart – supporting consistent routines in all classes
  • SWPBS Positive Acknowledgments – PAC Cup and AIRR Acknowledgments

PAC CUP:  The PAC Cup is awarded to the House whose students gain the highest number of positive chronicles from teachers, when they display the focus behaviour.  The PAC Cup runs over a five-week cycle, therefore twice per term.  During Weeks 1 – 5 of Term 1 teachers will be giving positive chronicles to students who follow all instructions.  So far this term, nearly 4000 positive chronicles have been awarded and we are only in week 2!  A Tally of each house will be in the next newsletter.

AIRR Acknowledgements: AIRR (standing for Aspiration, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility) Acknowledgements are given to individual students when staff see the young person demonstrating the expected behaviour.  AIRR Acknowledgments run on a three week cycle, and like the PAC Cup have a focus behaviour linked to a College Value.  This cycle we are focusing on the College Values of Aspiration and Responsibility. Students receive an AIRR Acknowledgment from their teacher when they arrive to class on time.  Students take their acknowledgment down to their House Reception, where it is put into a weekly draw.  This cycle, the weekly draw will see three lucky students win either a Village Cinema Ticket, a Canteen Voucher, or a stationary pack.
