Dear Parents and Students,

The past fortnight has seen much activity as our current students begin preparing for their VCE journey in 2022 with our orientation program being completed successfully last week. Students have been able to get a “head start” on their courses for 2022 by familiarising themselves with VCAA study designs, background material and assessment styles. All students will have some tasks to complete over the break in order to better prepare themselves for the 2021 academic year. These tasks are to be finished by day 1 of term 1, which is Monday January 31 2022.

It was also great to see our new year 10 group for 2022 who were able to physically visit JMSS and also use some of the sporting facilities within the Monash University campus.

Year 12 Results

After a very successful graduation event last week, students completing Year 12 subjects are able to access their results on the 16th of December. We hope all of our year 12 students will achieve results that match or exceed their expectations, especially after another year of uncertainty.

A range of JMSS staff will be on deck at school between 10am and 2pm on the 16th of December if students wish to chat about their results and get some advice on changing preferences for university, or just want to chat about options beyond school. Appointments are available with Kirsten Carter our careers counsellor. Full details have been emailed to students and have been communicated on Compass.

Olympiad Summer School

Congratulations to Sean Roe who has received an invitation to attend the Olympiad summer schools in Earth and Environmental Science based at ANU in Canberra over January. The summer schools will be run virtually and hopefully these students will go on to represent Australia in these subject areas in 2022.

Retirements

In addition to the well-earned retirement of our foundation staff members Sally, Alison and Trish, our two VCE managers, Grace Turner and Deirdre Robertson are both leaving the teaching service after careers spanning more than 30 years in state education. I would like to thank them both for their efforts in guiding our students through the complexities of the VCE, particularly through the challenges of the last 2 years and on behalf of the entire JMSS community wish both of them well as they transition into life beyond education.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Erin Hayley and the student team on their efforts in completing a superb school magazine this year. Each year the magazine gets better and better and I would recommend perusing this edition to get a sense of all of the amazing events and achievements that have characterised the 2021 JMSS year.

I would like to wish all members of the JMSS community a safe and relaxing festive period and hopefully you will all get the chance to get together with extended family in this period!

Look forward to seeing you all in 2022
