Careers Information

YEAR 11 INTERVIEWS

Interviews have been conducted with students in Year 11 to ensure their options beyond Year 12 are on track or to help in the decision-making process. This is an exciting time for them as they now enter into the HSC year and it is important for them to do their personal research and planning. All students who have considered dropping a subject have been interviewed and others who have no changes will also be involved in an interview.

QANTAS VISIT

Two year 10 students who have shown an interest in aviation travelled to Sydney with Mrs Mitchell to gather information on Careers in Engineering and how to become a pilot with Qantas or Jetstar. It was a long day in travel, but worthwhile in discovering new information.

University of Sydney VISIT

Thirty interested students from year 7 – 12 travelled to Sydney to have a campus tour of University of Sydney. The university student ambassadors explained different highlights of the campus and informed the students on courses available, accommodation, different styles of learning and different requirements and pathways. A visit to the Nicholson Museum was also a highlight where artifacts Our Lake Illawarra High School students were suitably impressed and loved seeing a different world of tertiary study that could be a place for them to study. It was a pleasure to take a wonderful group of young people who have aspirations for greatness.

CASUAL EMPLOYMENT

Also, now is a great time for students to be looking for casual employment. Retail stores are recruiting Christmas casual staff and local hospitality businesses are preparing for the busy summer holiday period. A reminder that any positions I hear about are shared on the Lake Illawarra High School Careers Facebook page. Resume and cover letter templates are available in the Student Area of https://www.lakeillawarrahighcareers.com and I am happy for students to bring drafts in to the Careers Office for feedback and job hunting tips or they can email me directly with their draft.

FIRST AID COURSE

All of year 10 are invited to participate in a two-day workshop to complete their First Aid Certificate. Notes will be distributed to students and the workshop will be on the 29th- 30th November. This will be a heavily subsidized course to ensure all can participate. Any students who missed out last year are also welcome to participate.
