Grade 5 Snapshot

Dear Parents,

We are now halfway through Home Learning 2.0 and hopefully getting closer to a return to school as we know it (fingers crossed). We have noticed that many students are beginning to struggle as working from home can take its toll on the kids’ motivation and engagement. In response, we will be having a Wellbeing Week starting in week 7 to work as a ‘refresher’ and try to energise the students for the last few weeks of the term.

We will continue to enhance the learning experience for students during Home Learning and we thank you for your ongoing support and feedback. Below is some additional information about some of these improvements we are making:

Google Classroom Assignments

We have made some changes to the work students will be uploading each day. From now on they will see two Classroom Assignments. One will have the daily schedule and tell them what they need to upload for the day. This is the work we will comment on. The second one will be all ‘other tasks’ that they have completed that day (besides specialists). This is for teachers to have an extra record of their learning and check for understanding throughout the week.

Seesaw

Grade 5 students and teachers are going to start using the online platform Seesaw to document students ‘Learning Journey’ in Inquiry for the rest of the term. As some of you may already know, Seesaw is currently being used with the Grade P-3 students. We will continue to use Google Classroom for our Daily Schedule and 'Other Tasks' students are completing and uploading.

Next week, teachers will be sharing some introductory activities with students to familiarise them with the program. Students will be able to use creative tools to take pictures, draw, record videos and more, to capture their learning and share back with their teachers. We will continue to create learning engagements with Seesaw in Term 4, so it is important for students to develop their understanding of this program.

The checklists that we have created have been developed to help guide students to produce work to their best potential. They can also be used as a form of self-assessment as well as in conjunction with teacher feedback.

Students have been doing an amazing job getting to their Google Meets each morning. Please remind them to continue being on time and prepared with the books and stationery they need for that session.
