Grade 5 Snapshot

 Dear Parents,

It was great to see all the students again. Students have shared that they feel positive and confident with Home Learning. They are growing and developing in ways which might not otherwise have been possible.

Home Learning this time around will see a number of new additions as well as enhancements on last term’s program. This term the learning program will be centered around lessons which are interconnected and build on each other. For this reason it is important that we encourage and support students in completing all their lessons whether it is work which is uploaded or used as building blocks for a continuum of learning. We ask that parents and students continue to communicate with teachers to help students manage and negotiate their workload. Feedback from parents and students allows us to modify our teaching program to best accommodate all learners.

This term we will be providing students and parents with checklists for reading, writing and mathematics which can be used to guide students in completing work to their fullest potential. We are also introducing the Passion Project this term. The Passion Project contains a collection of activities that students can choose from once they have completed all their assigned tasks. We have also introduced a weekly outdoor activity to get students out in the fresh air and sunshine.

An important aspect of student learning this term will be forming exceptional reading habits which aim to instill a love and enjoyment of reading. We ask that students read a minimum of 20 minutes a day and document this in their reading logs.

This term we  will continue with our Tech Free days and by popular demand regular Themed Fridays.

We ask that all students arrive at their Google Meet sessions on time. These times are valuable learning opportunities and 5-8 minutes per session can have an enormous impact.
