Welcome back to Term 2. It has been good to see everyone settle back into learning.

Year 7 Tech School

On Wednesday the 3rd of May, students in 7C/7D/7E from the Morwell Campus went on an excursion to Gippsland Tech School.

The excursion focused on the students learning about how the world of work is changing and the skills that will be most important for them as they move into the workforce. Students then rotated through three activities that expose them to industry-changing technologies and new ways of problem-solving.

Year 7 Youth Space

On Monday the 8th of May, 7A walked down to Youth Space to participate in a range of activities they have on offer including cooking, computers, and art.

Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 Camp planning continues with permission forms being due back as soon as possible. From the Year 7/8 Team’s point of view, we believe it is important that we have all students participate in this camp. Camp Coolamatong works really well with us and we ask for you to please work with us to overcome any barriers to your child attending so that they can get the full benefit.

8A Youth Space

On Monday the 8th of May, 8A also participated in a range of activities at Youth Space. By all reports, 8A had a lot of fun and enjoyed engaging with such a great local resource for youth.

Year 8 Camp

Year 8 camp planning is underway. Year 8 Camp is at the beginning of term 4 and will be at Karoonda Park.  This camp will give the students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, build new friendships, challenge themselves in numerous situations, see their peers in a different light and step outside their comfort zone.

Humanities

In Humanities this term, we are learning about entrepreneurs and business. Entrepreneurs are people that own their own business. They take on financial risks, in the hope and profit. They don’t give up no matter what. There are lots of different types of entrepreneurs. There are, social entrepreneurs, small business entrepreneurs, large company entrepreneurs, and innovation entrepreneurs. – Archie Shanahan

English

In English, we are focusing on writing a text analysis essay. We have looked at a few short stories including A Dozen Bloomin’ Roses and Only a Game. We use these short stories to explore language features, conjunctions, ideas, and issues. When writing an essay, we start by making sentences and then make these into paragraphs. Once these are put together, it creates an essay. - Hamzh Eliaser

Health

In health, we have been learning to get a certificate to do CPR on people when they are unconscious. We watched a video about people passing out or getting knocked out by the waves. To save someone’s life, they put this machine on them called a defibrillator and you must back away because if they have no heartbeat, they will get electrocuted. If their heart is still beating, then the voice on the machine will tell you and you will have to go back to giving them CPR. – Jack Caia-Mills

Year 7 and 8 Goals (Kurnai Positive Acknowledgments)

I would like to promote the continued fantastic start our students have made towards their learning. We understand the importance of celebrating the positive success our students demonstrate every day. This can mean showing improvement in the learning or behaviour right the way through to our high-end academic achievers. As you can see below the numbers of our positives are extraordinary and I encourage you to continue the conversations you are having at home about the positive choices our learners are showing every day.
