Year 9 News

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays but more importantly, it is great to see all students settling back into what is going to be another busy term.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
We will continue to acknowledge and reward students for their positive behaviours and will no doubt flood your phones with Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPAs). On that note, it has been fantastic to see students settle back into the Kurnai Learning Community and being acknowledged with KPAs for their e positive behaviours in the classroom.

Year 9 Camp
The 2023 Year 9 Camp planning is underway, with permission forms now on Compass. This camp will be a 4-night stay in Melbourne where students can experience a range of cultural, educational and leisure activities in the Melbourne CBD. This camp will be capped at 60 students due to accommodation and activity limits. If more than 60 students return permission forms, attendance and behaviour data will be used to select places. The Melbourne Discovery Camp is made possible with the support of DOXA Youth Foundation and will cost $150 per student. Contact the General Office, if you would like to use CSEF to help with the cost of the camp.
Morrisby Interviews
Most students have completed their Morrisby testing. These reports allowed students to gain some future direction towards their goals for their working life.
Learning Behaviour Updates
LBU’s will be released in week 5 of this term. I encourage you to sit down with your child and review their progress and continue to set goals to help them achieve their own academic success.
Tech School Visit
Students from Year 9 HPV visited the Morwell Tech School to learn about “A Renewable Future”.
Members of the class experimented with ways to generator and store renewable powers. They then applied this knowledge to a final challenge, where they were required to power a city for 24 hours with low cost and low CO2 emissions.
Students will take this knowledge back to the classroom as they will begin to prepare their presentations for the 24-Hour Energy Breakthrough event in Maryborough.
NDIS Pathways Webinar
Toni Spotswood, National Disability Insurance Agency, and Leela Darvall, Department of Education, will discuss a range of career planning and pathways tools, NDIS-funded supports and other assistance to help young people with a disability to build skills to prepare for their transition from school, and support them in achieving education, training, employment and other goals, post-school.
