Indoor Hockey

Congratulations to our Year 8 hockey girls who competed in the local competition. Tremendous spirit and huge improvements all around. They have been a great bunch of girls to work with.

Congratulations also to Erin Porter for her selection as an umpire for the U15 Australian Hockey Championships. Best of luck for this event.

NSW State Track and Field Junior Championships

Three O'Connor students competed at the State Junior Championships last weekend as part of Jay Stone's Viper Racing Team (VRT).

Tom Bible competed in the U 18 1500m and 3000m reaching the finals in both events. Tom rose to the occasion and ran two PB's. His time of 4.23.29 in the 1500m placed him 14th and he also went from 17th to 11th on the Armidale Athletics 'All Time Best on Record' list. In the 3000m race he took 10 seconds off his previous PB in difficult conditions running a time of 9.42. 07 which placed him 12th in NSW.

Emerson Fittler continues his improvement curve in his pet events.  Emerson ran in the 200m and 400m distances and after narrowly missing a bronze medal in the 200m (0.11 sec off), he backed up to come second in the U18 400m final. His silver medal time of 49.65 was not only a PB, but has pushed his ranking on the Armidale Athletics All Time Best on Record list to 5th (all aged categories).  This and his 200m time of 23.06 have secured him Australian Championship Qualifiers for 2022.

Another National Qualifying time was put down by Brooke Newberry in the U15 3000m Race Walk. Brooks results have been steadily getting faster so this is a huge achievement.  Brook also came away with a 53 second PB in a time of 16.57.

WALKING TO NATIONALS: Brooke Newberry has qualified for National Championships this year in the race walk.

Futsal

The Grand Final of the local girls futsal competition was played on Tuesday against Armidale Secondary College.  Mr Healy and Mr Honeysett have been coaching the team this year. We started the game strongly scoring first, before ASC  responded with a goal of their own. O'Connor scored again and went to the break leading 2-1.  ASC came out firing in the second half scoring a couple of cracking goals and a lucky deflection, to lead 4-2. With time running out, our girls found some energy and that O’Connor spirit to score another, but when the siren sounded to a packed PLC stadium, the final score was 4-3.

All players should be extremely proud of their achievements this Term, turning up each week with a smile, trying their hardest in each contest.

In other fusal news, Jorja Wilson is playing Futsal for the state of Tasmania in the upcoming Australian Futsal competition in Sydney over the Easter break.

Dio Touch Trials

Yesterday, two boys and two girls teams travelled to Inverell to compete in the Diocesan U15’s Touch Football Trials.

In very warm sticky conditions, the boys won 8, drew 1 and lost 1. The girls won 8 and lost 2.

A number of our students were then required to play in a Possibles v Probables game, so the two Armidale Diocesan sides could be selected.

Making the girls side were; Ava Chappell-Davis, Shanae Bull, Sophie Carson, Shanae Wark and Brooke Newberry.

While for the boys, Chitipat Poomipak, Joshua Bible, Cooper Morley, Riley Action, Jackson Riggall and Charlie Foster gained selection.

Banjo Clark also came across as a referee (there’s now a Pathway for refs.) and did a great job officiating in many, many games, and was also selected!

All students will now travel to Nelson Bay to compete in the NSWCCC Touch Football Championships on the 31st of March.

We wish them the best of luck!

Dio Swimming

Last Thursday, 17 of our students travelled to Gunnedah to compete in the Diocesan Swimming Carnival.

All students were fine ambassadors to the College, as they swam their best and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day.

Congratulations to Jack Saxby, Aleesha Stuart, Lily Lorimer and Lara Moloney, who were Age Champions!
