Hume Region Athletics

On Thursday 10th October, McGuire College students competed in the annual Hume Region track and field championships held at the Albury athletics track. Our school sent a small but determined team to compete against the best from our region and as usual our students performed admirably. Well done to the entire team of Fatima Sharifi, Olive McKenzie, Angelina Mason, Brianna Nimla-Or, Hannah Bilney, Jonathan Safari, Riley McNair, Josh Safari, Lachie McCully, Shaun Morris, Jamil Sasa, Alex Stewart and Mark Brown. A special mention must go to Jamil Sasa, boys 15 year shot put, and Shaun Morris, boys 16 year triple jump, who both won their events and qualified for the State final.

Junior Summer Sport

On Thursday 17th October, our Year 7 and 8 students competed in Goulburn Murray junior sport. Sports included table tennis, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, super 8’s cricket, lawn tennis and volleyball.

180 students signed up to be a part of the day's events, taking the popularity of sport amongst our students to new levels.

A number of our teams recorded excellent results with our boys cricket team finishing second only to the Notre Dame juggernaut as well as our girls volleyball team who despite having only 34 players managed to win the final of that competition! Our boys and girls lawn bowls teams were also declared the winner of their respective competitions.

Well done to all who took part on the day and we hope to see you all competing again in 2020!

State Athletics

On Friday 18th October, Jamil Sasa and Shaun Morris represented our school at the annual School Sports Victoria State Track and Field championships. Making a state final in any field is a remarkable achievement and the entire McGuire College community is rightly proud of their achievement.

Shaun competed in the boys 16 year triple jump and the entire field felt the full effect of a strong headwind making life extremely difficult for all competitors. Despite this Shaun still managed to finish 7th overall.

Jamil competed in the boys 15 year shot put and also acquitted himself with distinction finishing in 8th position.

Well done to both boys on making it to the state final and hopefully it lights a fire to make it back there in 2020.
