Staff Profile

Melinda Clarke | The Friends' School Archivist

When did you join The Friends' School?

I started working two days in the Archives at Friends’ in July 2014.

How long have you worked in the Cultural Heritage sector?

During my undergraduate degree at UTas (double major and honours in History) I volunteered with the History Curator at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, which eventually led on to work with the History, and Decorative Arts collections, and as a Gallery Attendant. I completed a Bachelor of Teaching, and worked briefly as a teacher in Hobart whilst undertaking a Masters in Cultural Heritage. For 17 years I have worked for the State Government as a Heritage Research Officer.

What are you excited about this year?

To continue building, discovering and sharing the unique history of The Friends’ School.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

As I get older, I really appreciate growing up on the west and north west coast of Tasmania - its a pretty unique place. But if you were looking for places further afield, I would love to go back to Finland.

What is your secret talent (that won't be so secret now)?!

For many years I have worked as a group fitness instructor, teaching Les Mills programs RPM and BodyBalance.
