What's new at Larnook PS
Good Sports
Over the last fortnight three different sports have been introduced into Larnook Public School.
In week two of the term the whole school began a series of lessons in volleyball. These are being provided through the Sporting Schools Grantand led by Clare. We have purchased a movable volleyball net which was set up under the COLA and the children learnt how to perform various volleyball techniques such as spike, serve and dig.
On Monday last week, Mr Collins showed he's not only talented in teaching Maths, but he also has skills to share in cricket. The Butterflies (senior class) gathered up the stumps and bats and headed up to the top field to engage in a few overs of cricket.
Wednesday of last week saw the whole school engaging in a game of hockey. Once again through Sporting Schools, we were able to engage the very talented Wendy (soccer coach, hockey coach and mail deliverer extraordinaire) to teach the children a variety of hockey skills. Wendy showed the children how to control the ball with small hits and turns, what grip to use and how to make longer pushes with the ball.
Despite the fact that the sticks were almost as tall as some of them, the children showed almost immediate improvement in their skills and made great progress.
