A shot of the whiteboard work Mr Collins did with the senior class in Maths
Mr Collins teaches the Butterflies (senior class) each Monday and concentrates on Maths for the morning. Last week he involved the children in working in a Licorice Factory! No, they didn't emerge at recess with black tongues - the process was actually about finding factors and prime numbers. If you want to know more, ask your child!
Pirates seem more for the movies than the classroom, but the creation of a pirate profile (based on factual research) is one of the activities in the unit of work being done by the Butterflies. The unit is called Great Journeys andinvolves the children in research about explorers across the world.
The Dragonflies (junior class) are talking about different families in a unit called Family Life. One of the discussions involved looking at royal families across the world from Saudi Arabia to England. Other aspects will include different types of families, connections, how families change over time and the various roles in a family.
This term K to 2 will be learning in the area of Earth and Space Sciences and working on a unit called Looking Up and Around. This is all about how the sun moves across the sky, landscapes, the night sky, seasons and the weather.
Years 3 to 6 will be looking at a unit called The Sun, Earth and Moon which looks at the power of the sun and night and day.
This term K -2 are being read a book called Dragonkeeper by Carole Wilkinson and 3-6 are reading the Paul Jennings book Uncanny! Being read to is an important part of learning about language and it's also a really relaxing and enjoyable experience.
