Executive Director's Welcome

Executive Director's Welcome

I’m delighted to be writing to you, our MITS Family, as we start the 2020 school year.

It has been a significant and exciting start to the school year: three weeks ago we opened our new Alumni Boarding House for Girls on Richmond Hill, just 80 metres from our Year 7 Lockington Boarding House.

This new boarding house will enable up to 18 girls to continue to live with MITS in a warm, culturally safe home environment while attending Partner Schools as day students.  It provides another choice for students and parents in addition to the great Home Stay and Partner School Boarding options that are already available.  With the opening of this new Boarding House MITS is now able to provide accommodation to 46 students every year.  In 2020, nearly 70 students are pursing education in Melbourne at MITS or at one of our Partner Schools having graduated from MITS.

The strength of this school community was on display on Sunday 9 Feb at our annual MITS Family BBQ at Rick and Liz’s Farm.  Current and alumni students came together to share stories of their school holidays and reconnect at the start of another busy school year.  You can enjoy photos of this great day in this week’s newsletter.

Another recent highlight has been our 2020 Orientation Program for our new Year 7 students.  Welcoming students to MITS is a great privilege for us and our staff, and we are indebted to our parent and family community for trusting us to care for their young people away form home.  Orientation Week provides a special opportunity to form new connections with students and their parents.

We are excited to share the progress of MITS and our students with you in 2020.  I hope that you enjoy this Family Newsletter.
