Senior School Sport

Mr Jamie Cook

As a restricted MCS Spring season comes to a close, the students now move into trials mode for the upcoming MCS Summer season for Basketball and Cricket. Trials will run for the remainder of the term to allow all students plenty of time to impress the MCS Coaches.

Term 4 Summer sports are being planned for as we wait for the latest information from our governing body regarding future participation in school competitions. The College will ensure all students are well prepared for the planned MCS season or an in-house College competition.

Our SGC Touch competition came to an end with a very tight finals series. Well done to the following students for winning the Junior (Years 7-9) Mixed competition: Brock Achurch, Riley Davies, Leon Kelly, Ahmad Assaad, Jet Glavan, Steven Moran-Briggs, Tyrel Kelly, Cooper Mangan, Jacob Veiru and Jarrod Lawrence.

Well done to the following students for winning the Senior (Years 10-11) competition: Jardyn Nori, James Davey, Zac Stuart, Matt Canellis, Oliver Kaluzyn, Patrick Star, Jamie Nicholson, Jack Burrows and Caiden Brincat.

MCS Summer Sports Trial information

Senior Basketball will be held throughout Term 3 from Weeks 1 to 10. Selections have begun with the trial squad already reduced to 25 players.

Senior Cricket trials will take place from Weeks 6 - 10 of Term 3 on the College grounds. Students trialling for these teams will be eligible to represent the College in all Senior Cricket competitions throughout the 2020/2021 seasons. Students who are not selected for Summer teams in Term 3 will need to return to House Sport or select a Recreational Sport option.

Junior Basketball will take place from Week 6 to Week 10, of Term 3. The venue for these trials will change between the College Hall and Minto Stadium, pending age groups and College exams.

Junior Cricket trials for MCS teams will take place in Week 1 to Week 5 at an indoor facility then move to College grounds in Weeks 6 - 10.

This will ensure all students who trial, will get adequate time to display their skills, talents, attitude and behaviour throughout the term.

Sydney FC has confirmed they will run a 4-week Football Program for the students in Year 7/8 House Sport. This program will commence in Week 6 of this term. The program will aim to keep the students engaged in an active program whilst learning the fundamentals necessary to play football.

House Cup

Daily Merits are continually being added each week courtesy of the College staff acknowledging student’s excellent contributions to learning, in and out of the classroom. The House Point totals will remain unannounced as we move towards the end of the College calendar in preparation for naming Champion House for 2020.

All students are asked to check their co-curricular activities to ensure they are accurate and they have received points for their participation.
