Learning and Teaching

Year 4

In STEM this term, we have been exploring the precious resource of water. Did you know:

- There is the same amount of water on Earth now as there was when the Earth was formed

-  Water is made up of two components, hydrogen and oxygen

- 75% of the human brain is made of water

- 75% of a living tree is water

- A person can live a month without food but only a week without water.

To conclude our unit, we created 3D models demonstrating the different parts of the water cycle. If you would like to see our projects, then pop up to the Grade 4 Classrooms on Friday's Open Morning.

On behalf of Grade 4, have a lovely safe holiday and we will see you next term.

Year 6 Debating

On Friday the 21st of June, four teams competed in the primary school debate championships which was organised by Mrs Ferguson. Sadly, no other schools signed up to debate with us so we competed against each other.

Two adjudicators from The Debating Association Victoria scored us on our debates. There were three topics; All kids should ride bikes to school, we should ban animal testing for medical reasons and our secret topic, school should end two hours later.

For the first debate, Team One competed against Team Two and Team Four against Team Three. Teams One and Four came out victorious.

The second debate was Team One vs Team Three and Team Two vs Team Four. In this debate, Teams Two and Three won.

Finally, our secret topic. Team One debated against Team Four and Team Two Against Team Three. This was the tie-breaker round as each team had won and lost a debate. We all worked hard but there could only be two winners. The champions were… Teams One and Three!

We as the presenters would like to thank all participants for taking part in this semester's debate! We all did very well and we are extremely proud of ourselves. I hope that you will feel inspired to take up the debate with your parents about how much pocket money you get..

Football Lightning Premiership

Last Friday the Football Lightning Premiership team went to Basil Reserve, East Malvern to play Football for the whole day. We arrived at school at 8:20am and left at 8:30am. We arrived at Basil Reserve and set up our marquee. Our first game was a friendly match against St Patrick’s, Murrumbeena. Unfortunately, we lost by 4 points. Our pool was St Patrick’s Murrumbeena, St Mary’s Hampton and Sacred Heart Brighton. We only won one game against the eventual runners up, St Mary’s, Hampton. It was a friendly match. All the other teams were very strong. In the end, St Joan of Arc won for the 4th year in a row.  Overall, we enjoyed the day and thanks to Sandra for taking us and scoring the games and Mr Tobin for coaching us and umpiring half a game.

Netball Lightning Premiership

On Wednesday the 19th of June, Year 5 and 6’s participated in Netball Lightning Premiership for 2019. As soon as everyone arrived at school at 8:15 am sharp, the teachers checked off everyone on the roll and we headed onto the bus at 8:30 am. On the bus, everyone was very excited to play a good game of netball. Once we arrived at the Frankston District Netball Courts we all started to warm up and split into our teams. I was in the A girls team and Aleeya was in the A mixed team. Once all our teams warmed up, our coaches guided us to the courts where we would be playing and the captains handed out the bibs. Aleeya played C, GA, GS and WA and I played C, GD, GK. The sirens went off and it was the start of the game. The excitement filled the air! The A teams each had two byes and all together we played 7/9 games. The B team won all their games and made it through to the finals and won! Sadly the A teams didn’t win every game so they weren’t able to go to the finals but we all tried our hardest and gave it our best! We had such a fun time and can't wait for the younger year levels to experience this opportunity.

Thank you to Mrs Ferguson, Miss Burke, Miss Bland and Georgia McNamara for coaching and making this day more successful!
