Grade 5 Snapshot

Dear Parents,

It has been fantastic to catch up with each student individually over the week and find out how they are going with Home Learning. The general feedback from students has been that they are enjoying Home Learning and are making regular contact with their friends as well as getting their daily exercise. Students have really enjoyed the different wellbeing activities and this has led us to include wellbeing activities as a regular feature of the daily schedule. They also thoroughly enjoyed using their entrepreneurial and creative skills when designing their paper toy products as well as their travel brochures - what better way to take a family trip when in Lockdown!

Additional Wellbeing Activities

We have decided to include additional Wellbeing activities for the students each week to give them that extra mental health and wellbeing support they need during Home Learning. This will be guided by The Resilience Project website and their focus on Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.

Seesaw

Next week, we will make some changes to what students are uploading to Seesaw to avoid confusion between Google Classroom and Seesaw. Grade 5 students will only upload their Friday Wellbeing and STEAM tasks to Seesaw. On no other day will they be required to upload a task to Seesaw unless the individual teacher specifies. We will continue to create learning engagements with Seesaw in Term 4, so it is important for students to develop their understanding of  this program.

Google Classroom Assignments

Students will continue to see two Classroom Assignments. One will have the daily schedule and tell them what they need to upload for the day. This is the work we will comment on. The second one will be all ‘other tasks’ that they have completed that day (besides specialists). This is for teachers to have an extra record of their learning and check for understanding throughout the week.

Reading Assessment

This week students will be involved in one-on-one Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessments with their teacher, between Monday and Wednesday. Your child will be given a Google Meet time through Google Classroom to login with their teacher to complete this assessment.
