Year 11 and 12 Visual Art

At the end of Week 5, our Year 11 and 12 Visual Art students were privileged to experience a presentation by contemporary Australian artist Dr John Dahlsen in the Draney Theatre.  We also hosted the Senior Visual Art students from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace at this presentation. John is an environmental artist who uses found objects, predominantly ocean litter plastics that he collects from Australian beaches. His work promotes social and environmental concerns and the impact that materialism has on the environment.  His artwork communicates the message that beauty can be found through recycling and reusing found materials in creative ways and he suggested that art-making should be for personal satisfaction rather than to appease others. We are very fortunate to have had such a high-profile artist come to the college to share his knowledge and his artistic journey to date with our Senior Visual Art students.

The 2023 Tower Art Show

The 2023 Tower Art Show was another great success. Not only did it raise money through sales of artworks by practicing artists for the Champagnat Trust which provides bursaries for boys who may never have the opportunity to experience a Marist Education, it also provides an avenue for our Visual Art students to display their work in a professional exhibition space. Artwork by our Visual Art students across all year levels was part of the exhibition. One of the highlights of the event was also seeing our Indigenous Dance Troupe (Landon Law-Palm, Keli Law-Palm, Paddy Bassani, Antwone Davidson-Alberts and Reuben Simpson) who performed at the opening of the Art Show as part of the Acknowledgement of Country.

ASHCAM Competition

ASHCAM has now closed and judging is currently taking place by our guest judge, photographer Dr Joachim Froese. Winners will be announced on our final day of Creative Industries Week this Friday, with the presentation of awards taking place on assembly in Week 8.
