Food Technology

It has been a wonderful term with the Secondary 9/10 students. They worked so hard to produce some homemade products to sell at the Christmas Concert, including a variety of jams, lemon cordial, breadcrumbs, chai spice mix, taco spice mix and a selection of DIY cookies, brownies and pancakes in a jar. Combined with the money already raised this year, we were able to donate a huge $704 to our chosen charity Oxfam. Well done to all the students and a big thank you for the support of the school community for purchasing our products.

Physical Education – Hayley Northridge

On Friday 29th November 10 Secondary 9/10 students from Concord participated in the VicHealth Cup State Championships at the State Basketball Centre. They played 4 games against the best specials schools in the state. The last game was a nailing biting finish with Concord coming out on top by 3 points. With this win they preceded onto the Semi-finals where we went down by 6 points.

All boys played exceptionally well and did the school proud. They were all tough games and our boys showed great team work and fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day. The boys should be very proud of themselves as they worked hard in all the games they played.

Outdoor Education – Donna Thomas

This Term students in Secondary 9/10 have been learning how to kayak at La Trobe University using the swimming pool. Students have learnt a variety of skills including entry and exit of a kayak and how to paddle around in the water using an oar. We have had a lot of fun!

Science – Sam Hutson

This term Secondary 9/10 students in the ‘Beakers and Microscopes’ Elective have focused on learning how to use the new light microscopes purchased for the science program this Semester. Students have enjoyed looking at and learning to draw samples from a range of prepared slides. In addition students have also learnt how to prepare wet and dry mounts using blank slides to investigate bacteria in yoghurt, red onion cells and even hair samples from their own heads. Towards the end of Term four all year 9/10 students participating in this program had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Forensic Detective’ incursion. Students worked in small groups and used real forensic science techniques including ink chromatography, PH tests, handwriting analysis, blood analysis and fingerprint dusting to solve a crime.

Career Education – Annemarie Holmyard

This year we have introduced the 9/10 students to the concepts of Occupational Health and Safety and how this applies in the workplace. Students have been working through the ‘Job Well Done’ Certificate and have been learning about hazards, manual handling, identifying signs, emergency procedures and prevention of slips trips and falls.

Digital Technology- Jess Mitchell

In the 9/10 elective classes, students created a movie about the different units offered by all the specialists. They chose their favourite class, wrote a short script and then were filmed talking in front of a green screen. The students also visited the different specialist classes and filmed the action taking place. Finally, they edited together the different videos and photos taken into a class movie using the iMovie app. They should be very proud of the final movie which can be seen at the end of year assembly!
