OCC Step Day

On Tuesday 10 March, the Year 6 students from St Mary of the Angels visited O’Connor Catholic College as part of their transition program to prepare for high school in 2027.
The day gave students the opportunity to explore the school, meet some of the teachers, and begin building friendships with other students who will also be starting Year 7 at O’Connor next year. It was an exciting chance for students to become more familiar with the school environment and experience what a typical day of learning at O’Connor might look like.
Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of subject classes including Mathematics, English, History and Physical Education. These lessons allowed them to try different learning activities while getting to know some of the teachers and classrooms they may work in during high school.
Students were well looked after, with recess and lunch provided by the school. The Year 11 and Year 12 student leaders also prepared a delicious sausage sizzle, which was a highlight of the day.
It was wonderful for the students to see many familiar faces, including several former St Mary of the Angels Primary School students who are now enjoying their time at O’Connor. Their friendly faces welcomed students and made them feel comfortable and excited about the next stage of their learning journey.
The visit was a great experience and helped students feel more confident and prepared as they begin thinking about the transition to secondary school.
