After returning from recess one morning last week, the students were surprised to discover that their classroom chairs had gone on strike and left a letter explaining their concerns. This unexpected classroom surprise launched our Persuasive Writing unit , where students explored how to state an opinion, provide convincing reasons and write strong conclusions. Using The Chairs on Strike as a mentor text, students developed their understanding of persuasive language and text structure while writing letters to encourage the chairs to return. We are proud of the enthusiasm and effort Grade 1 and 2 students have shown across both learning areas this term.

In Visual Arts, students created vibrant stitched artworks using painted cardboard and wool. They learned basic stitching techniques and used colour, pattern and shape to create unique geometric designs. The project encouraged creativity and perseverance as students developed a new artistic skill.

PE NEWS: Winter Gala

On Friday 12th June, the 5/6 students participated in the District Winter Gala against five other local schools. They played in teams competing in soccer, softball, danish rounders, girls netball and mixed netball. We were so proud of how all the students represented St Luke’s showing great sportsmanship and encouragement to their teammates and opposition. All teams had fantastic results winning many of their games, with all teams coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd in each sport. I am pleased to say that St Luke's was the overall winner for the 2026 District Winter Gala. Well done to the mixed netball team who were undefeated and will progress to the Division Mixed Netball competition on Wednesday 22nd July at the Waverley Netball Grounds. They will play successful teams from five other districts. A big thank you to all the families who supported our students at the district event.

Whether you were scoring, coaching, umpiring, supervising, or cheering from the sidelines, your time and commitment helped make the day a success. We appreciate the support and encouragement you provided to our students.

Congratulations to all the students, what a fantastic day everyone had. Good luck netballers, go St Lukes!

Lacrosse Clinic

During Term 2, all our Prep - Year 6 students have participated in a lacrosse clinic during our PE classes, funded by the Sporting Schools Grant. Jason, Max and Jordan from Gecko Sports ran the workshops, coaching the students the fundamental lacrosse skills, such as scooping ground balls, passing, and catching. The older students all enjoyed putting their skills to the test when they were able to play a lacrosse match in their last sessions.

Prep Aqua has some very enthusiastic performers! The Preps had a great time using scarves to dance to "Vivaldi's Winter Movement". It was a great way to experience classical music while also warming ourselves up during these frosty days!
